I am still using the stock 167 drivers with my 1730 8800 SLI setup. Dell also posts a "performance driver" you can download that is of the 174 version series.
Is it worth upgrading to the Dell performance driver? Is another version recommended instead?
I have read threads about certain drivers downclocking, overheating the hardware, etc and it's a bit confusing. I ask because it also seems that people are experiencing higher framerates and smoother gameplay from them.
Right now I am playing Crysis, Bioshock, Lord of the Rings Online and Age of Conan if it helps to know.
Thanks in advance!

Well, I can definitely say that the 167 drivers absolutely blew chunks for my 8800M-GTX SLI set-up. After many driver clean ups and reloads, I ended up installing the 175.16 drivers from laptopvideo2go. Made a world of difference for both Guild Wars and UT3 (no more constant video stalls and hick-ups). However, Dell Media Direct stopped working for BluRay disks. Fortunately I have WinDVD9 + BluRay which works fine.
I did initially try installing 174.74, but it kept getting rundll32 errors at boot-up. So, I then moved to 175.80, but these had SLI performance issues. 176.16 has yielded the best results so far, so that's what I'm using for now. -
yes, deffo go for the dell performance driver.
Im using it with my 8800's, and they are very stable, and increase game performance by quite a lot! -
How does Dell Media Direct work with BluRay disks under the 174.31 driver? Is it WHQL-certified? Have you noticed any errors since installing them?
