My new 1730 with 8800 GTXs is set to "balanced power" settings, yet according to Everest, the GPUs idle at 73C. Isn't that too high?

Also, I hear this tone from it from time to time, but no indication of trouble. It doesn't happen in games, only at the desktop. What is that tone? It's a beep but a lower tone that what we usually hear as a "PC beep" if that makes sense. I hope it's not an over-temp warning beep or something.

    Any thought?

This is at idle though in games it doesn't seem to reach 90. But, at idle, it's extremely hot. I am curious what others are seeing for temps at idle and under load.

That does seem pretty warm. Have you tried raising it off the desk a bit? Maybe a notebook cooler might help. How do the fans sound? What is your fan speed? It could be a faulty fan, and if so, I'd give Dell a call.

The fans are definately working. It's pretty quiet sitting on the desk at idle but when gaming they definately crank up.

I am curious what others with a 1730 and 8800 GTXs are seeing for idle and load temps. I have no idea what is considered normal.

Idle is around 70. I can hit 60 if i raise the back. Load is not much more, around 76 or something.

Seems normal to me bro. Remember laptop components can operate very hot.

Its normal, this system does run pretty warm to the touch.

    As a general rule...

Idle - temps range between 58-75c
Under load - up to 80-85c

Anything in them ranges is fine.

ifti - Even after removing the cpu heatsink and cleaning it on mine and applying a new coat of Arctic Silver 5, the cpu core 2 will sometimes still get to 92c while playing Crysis or UT3, the idle temps on the cpu are core1 40c and core2 35c. But the gpu's both are always at around 48c idle and 63c to 72c under load
