    Hi, I am a componet level troubleshooter for various products. I am not a LapTop Tech. I have a friend who ask me to look at his M1730, Which is dead (no power no charge and the supply seems ok) When you plug the supply to the unit the power light on the supply goes out. This would lead me to believe there is a short somewhere. This is the second time with the same problem, unit sent to Dell last time and they replaced the whole unit under warranty. My research has leed me to know it is a continuing issue with these units. I have torn it totally down and pluged things in one at a time till I found what I believe is the faulty board. Not sure what it is called, touch pad keyboard interface, power buttons, etc. What I need to know is does this make sense. All the post I have read refer to problems with GPU, battery or supply. Have also had several say whole mother board. Any help will be greatly appreciated. David

    First things I would do;

    Test AC adapter with multimeter, make sure it outputs right voltage.

    With battery and AC adapter UNPLUGGED, hold down the power button for 30 seconds to flush battery memory.

    Not much you can do after that.
