First impression : WOW, that thing is big.
It`s got a really good build quality, wouldn`t have expected it.
However, the GPUs run very hot for my liking, idling at 60ish, which is the max temp for my Sager...
Hmm, I`ll have to tweak it a bit and post some pics, but so far, the thing is a beast. Looking forward to trying out Crysis and UT3 on it.
Config : 2.4 T8300, 2 gb RAM, SLI 8800M GTX,WUXGA...
Pics to be added tomorrow.

Hey sweet mine will be coming tomorrow and i can't wait till I test my also

Love the lid keyboard, awesome stuff -
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Eleron,write a comparative review
-
I shall indeed
So far, the XPS is like a rock, no screeches, nothing. It`s simply amazin, but needs tweaking and fan speed adjusting.Getting i8kfangui
Oh, and it`s quiet, real quiet. Wouldn`t have expected that either... -
special one for you!

I'm glad you are liking it thus far!! Will keep you busy for a bit...yah like 10 seconds......kidding
Cheer's to you! -

-
Not much bigger, you won`t notice the weight difference. It`s got all sorts of lights and stuff, I`ll take comparative pictures tomorrow and you`ll see.
It`s sturdy , quiet and so far, lightning fast, wow -
-
Ok,1 pic for now, I`m really busy and I`ll get into trouble if I don`t finish what I was doing

congratz & how heavy is that thing >.<
-
Thanks for sharing!
Now don't get into trouble..get back to *sitting outside and enjoying the sun* -
Honestly, not much heavier than my 8.5 pound Sager...Id say 10 pound-ish. But it looks so sick with all the leds and lid keyboard
-
....It will put our front headlights on your Avy to shame!!!
-
wehat screen did you get the lg or the sharp?
-
The one with the SP, I guess it`s sharp.Seems as bright as my LG from the Sager,if not more.As I said, pics tomorrow side by side.

I wouldnt touch the fan controls. You really dont need to. The system does an excellent job when it comes to thermal control. The kind of temps you should be getting are as follows....
Idle: Fluctuates between 58c to 75c. As I said, fans kick in at acount 70-75c, and do an excellent job of cooling the system down to around 58c.
Under load/Gaming: The highest temps I ever recorded were around 80c. This was while playing Crysis, at almost max settings. The fans kick in and keep the temps at around 75-80c.
The above temps are normal, and you wil be fine with them.
Point ot Note - all temps above are recorded with Everest Ultimate - which has been the most accurate at giving temp readings for me!
I would striongly recommend you lift the back of the system off of the desk a little though. Just prop it up from the back with bottle tops or somet - about half an inch should do. It makes a HELL OF A DIFFERENCE with cooling! The system runs a lot nicer. -
Congratz on your purchase... for some reason I thought you already had an XPS M1730 like mine lol!
One of the first things you'll notice is that the M1730 has excellent cooling specs, but putting its back on a raised platform does improve cooling even more. Mine sits on a Targus push fan base, but I found that the extra air actually causes system temps to go higher, so now the Targus stays off.
If your system is running Vista, the latest NVidia 175.19 drivers will make a big difference.
GL and enjoy your new gaming beast. -
Don't forget the pic's!
-
Looks very nice! Thanks for the pictures. Looks like it is a great machine.

the smoke is my fav i think.. i honestly really dont like the red but im not at all a red person. the blue i think would look better if it was not maybe so much like electric blue or so plastic looking at least from the pics of it online. from the pics the white just looks a bit less like plastic so much i guess.. i still would have liked the smoke. but i think you can change just the wings if im right??
-
-
how did you like the blue ones?? compared.. i dont care if i have to pull the lcd not a big deal
-
The only thing that cand get really annoying is all the lights.
Just got up and didn`t get much of a chance to do anything, will download 3dmark and install crysis and give it a run.
It may have excellent cooling, granted it has 2 8800M GTXs, but it`s idle temps are my Sager's load temps.
I`ll have to tweak it and make it run cooler and get a Zalman ASAP.
Even though I have the 3 year warranty
I`ll get on it after I eat, I worked some 16 h yesterday and slept like 8h. -
Adding pics and will do a comparative review with my sager 5791 later today.

And more pics, won`t allow me to add more than 6
I`m not good at taking photos, I wanted to catch all the light spectacle. Will wait till tonight for that...

Thanks for the pics, looks like a nice gaming laptop
but that power brick looks huge even compared to such a big laptop
-
I know,it`s indeed huge.
I`ll do a review of it vs the sager 5791, 220W brick vs 120W one -
the grey is so nice..
-
Thanks for sharing those pic's E
It looks very niceCongrat's again to you
Woot!
-
Congrats on your new laptop! I just got a new built M1730 as a replacement for my 1720 last friday. Hope you are enjoying your new system like Iam.
-
wow wow wow .... they sent you a 1730 instead of a 1720!!! man wow.. im def getting complete care for mine
-

Unfortunately the wing plate LED's don't have variable colors like the speaker / touchpad lighting effects, but they still look niceHere they are pictured with the gray plates:
To Eleron911: Make sure that all of your lighting effects are working. I found a burned out LED on mine when my M1730 initially arrived. Dell had to replace the entire back lid assembly just to fix it. -
yeah i like the grey the best myself but if i buy from the seller im looking at i only have blue or white to choose from
-
-
can i ask why??
-
-
have you seen the white in person?
-
kinda... the area under the wing plates are white by default, and I got to see the lid with the white wings while the tech was installing the gray plates.
Without derailing this thread too much further, I don't think you can really go wrong with either one. White is a nice, neutral color, but if you like something more flashy, blue is fine with the LED's on. -
lol yeah sorry eleron...
-
And SLI is giving me hard time with Crysis, pisses me off.
I`m just getting used to it, but man, is this thing ever solid. No screen wobble,no keyboard flex,no wiggle.
Rock solid,woot! -
where's your review & pic????
XPS 1730 arrived today.
