Tammy - most of the new XPS's don't have rebates... watch the Outlet to see if one pops-up there that's your best bet to get a deal... if your willing to wait...

Let us know what you think of it when you get it... been happy with my older i7....especially w/a SSD in it...

I have the 1810 i7 and love it, but really would like the Haswell with better graphics. Anyone look into replacing the 1810 motherboard with an 1820 motherboard?

I've ordered the 1820 i7 with the 256GB SSD. Does anyone know which slot it is occupying; SATA or mSATA? I'm planning to add a secondary 500GB SSD for the other slot and was hoping to order it before the system gets here.

Did you find out if the SSD was in mSATA or SATA?

The iCore processors usually come with 500GB SATA and 32GB mSATA for cashing ....

    You can upgrade both....

    SATA - SSD any size....
mSATA - to anysize mSata ... but if you look back there is a trick to making it a 2nd HD.... look thru the thread ... myself and an a few others have posted tricks to it...

    Good Luck...

PS - This is where in the tread people talk about the mSATA upgrade.... http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/716080-xps-18-18-5lbs-tablet-20.html

Got an 1820 last week. I am impressed so far. It is so fast. I have no problems. I got the 4 year drop protection and the extended warranty. JIC. One drop would kill this device.
Only thing I don't like is the black levels on the IPS screen when watching movies. IPS panels are known to have lousy blacks. I can live with it. Colors are very accurate.
I was going to add a mSATA. But I read that these 1820's have m.2 SATA slot. Not sure what size. I have not opened the case yet. So I will just use the 256GB SSD for now. I use a USB 3 portable for backups, movies, etc. I may replace the 256 with a 512 or 1TB SSD if there is a good black Friday deal.

    hello folks,
new to the site and i have been seeing some very informative help and was wondering if i could get a little.

I upgraded my mem to 12gb and well it shot my rapid start program setup on my SSD32 drive. can some one help me set it up again. the bios sees 12gb mem and when i look at the disk managager is shows only 12gb not the full 32gb of the drive. oh and one other thing is is taking what seems like forever to load.

    My system:
    i7
    12gb mem
    32 msata
    500 sata

    Thanks for your time

The original setup on the tablet is to use the 32gig as a swap drive for memory... you have to disable this and format the 32gig drive or it will stay a swap drive... go into windows partition and delete the partition on the 32gig ... then reboot w/o partitioning it... once rebooted partition and format... so work fine....

Good luck... there are other instructions here to go back a page and I talk about adding a new msata to the tablet... you can just do the functions for the your current one...

I having one problem with Dell XPS 1820 PC/Tablet
Twice this month the battery won't charge. Windows says plugged in not charging. And shows the battery percentage.
The first time it happened I called Dell. What eventually fixed it was let the battery drain in windows until it shut down. Then hold the power button in to drain residual charge. After that it would charge normally.
The second time was yesterday. I did the f12 Dell Diagnostic and it said AC adapter not detected. Led on the charging tip is white. I tried the side charging port. So I ran the battery to zero again and held the power button after it died. Back to normal.
Anyone ever seen this type of problem? I am an IT tech. I don't repair laptops. Seems it would either be the AC adapter, battery, or motherboard.
It seems like some kind of glitch since it works normally all other times. These batteries have a chip?
I'm going to open another ticket with Dell and start by replacing AC adapter.

I have an XPS 1810 with an i3 CPU. Which would improve it's performance more:
    (1) Replacing the spinning hard drive with an SSD?
    (2) Replacing the motherboards and CPU with an i7 one?
The two are around the same cost and I don't think I can afford both. It's one xor the other.
    Thanks

Where can you find system boards for around $250? A 500 GB SSD is around that and lower price. SSD will make a bigger difference.

Thanks. I managed to find an i7 motherboard for that much on ebay. But if the SSD will make more difference then I'll put that in instead. And it's much less work to put the SSD in than the motherboard. Anybody want the motherboard?

    Looks OK.
But I'd have the rather run it in windows on my 1820. I am a multi-booter on all of my PC's except my XPS 1820. I don't see any advantage of running it natively. Could you point out some? Thx!

ConsoleOS looks like buggy kickstarter project. Pass
AMIDuOS is super easy, very fast, and works 100%. Install and you'll be up and running Android in less than a minute. I can install apk's from windows by right clicking on the apk and selecting apply to AMIDuOS.
One of my main uses is running the new TiVo Android app. A great way to stream my shows to my XPS 1820 AIO PC using the TiVo Stream device.

Help me with my strange vexing issue. After I sleep the computer a mere touch of the gigantic touchscreen would wake it up. Tried hard to look for an option to prevent the touchscreen from waking up the computer to no avail. You can disable the keyboard from waking the computer, disable the mouse from waking the computer, but not the touchscreen. I have updated all the drivers downloaded from Dell to rule out the possibility of a driver issue. I also went through the BIOS options but found nothing that might cut power to the touchscreen while sleeping so as to prevent it from waking up the machine.

Well, a lot of people want the wake by touch function on their phones or tablets, but how do I put this in a bag on the go without waking it up? It's not double tapping, it's a slight touch anywhere that wakes it up. I am hibernating it when not in use but this is stupid, because it wakes up much more slowly even with a SSD.

Did anyone else have this issue? Thanks.

I have narrowed down the problem to one thing: once bluetooth is disabled (AC7260) the touchscreen no longer wakes the computer from sleep. As you can imagine it took me a while to figure out. The bundled keyboard and mouse still works without bluetooth.

OK... I know this is an old thread... just wanted to post an update for everyone that has this... crazy digital pad... no-one makes it anymore... have two of them... and a Lenovo....

    Dell XPS 18 -1810 w/ 2117u at my office - Running two monitors plus the 18" so three all together - 27" curved Samsung 1920x1080 - XPS 18 1920x1080 - 43" Viso 4K @ 1920x1080 - 12 gigs of Ram 500GB SATA and 32 mSATA

    Dell XPS 18 - 1810 w/ i7-3537u at home - 18 XPS @ 1920x1080 - 12gigs of Ram 500GB SSD Samsung Evo 850 - 256 mSATA

Lenovo Horizon 2e - w/i5-4210u at home - running itself with 8gigs and 500GB SSD Samsung Evo 850...

I've been watching and ordered a 16gb DDR3 1600MHZ PC3-12800 SODIMM 204pins - I know it will work in the Lenovo but the I'm going to try it in the Dell's to see if I can bump the ram up-to 20gigs.... fingers crossed...

Also ordered a Wavlink 5K Dual 4k Ultra Dock - the Viso at work I want to run at 3840x2160 which is it's native resolution... I'll post the update and pictures once I have it done... the two single HD - HDMI USB devices I've been running for over 4 years work like a charm still...

If anyone needs help with any setup's... I've played with these as much as I could... I can't believe no-one makes them anymore ... I still love mine...

I had this device until 2 months ago when I sold it to my boss and I upgraded to the Samsung Notebook 9Pro. I traveled with the XPS 18 between work and home and also had it in a multi-monitor set up for both places. I upgraded the wifi module and the ram to 16GB. Didn't upgrade the hard drive since I had everything in the cloud. I did manage to put AMIDuOS on it as well to run some of my Android apps and games. It's a shame that Dell never upgraded it with a digitizer screen and stylus. Acer made one similar (in the same form factor) but used an older processor and kept it only for the European market. I do miss that big screen though.
