Hello everyone,
I know that a few folks in here have been owners of the XPS 15 9530 and have now moved on to the XPS 15 9560. So I thought this might be the best place to ask this:
With the current 12% deal on the XPS laptops I might buy the XPS 15 9560 with the following configuration:
My current laptop is a Dell XPS 15 9530 with the top configuration:
So the main differences are:
FHD, i7-7700HQ, Intel HD630, GTX 1050, Faster M.2 NVME SSD
vs
QHD, i7-4702HQ, Intel HD4600, GT 750M
1. Would I notice an real performance differences?
2. Would I cry about my old QHD screen and hate the FHD? Scaling sucks on Linux and also FHD brings better battery life. For gaming I use an external screen 144Hz.
3. Since I am on Linux, I am using the iGPU at 99%. The dGPU only gets activated when I explicit say so (e.g. run a game with NVIDIA). Would the iGPU upgrade make the system run noticeable better?
4. Any other differences that I might be happy or sad about?
Thanks in advance!

I think you should have kept your post here and not in three different threads.
IMO all of these are subjective things. You may notice it, you may not. You may like the FHD screen, you may not. You may like the form factor, you may not.
You need to do your research and figure out if it's right for you. Do the applications you use already stress your current hardware?
The 1050 is not going to drive a144hz screen in today's games. -
Like Custom90gt said, it is very subjective and completely based on your workload. The CPU is about 25% more powerful, the iGPU about 70% more powerful than the hd4600, the dedicated GPU about 200% more powerful.
So yeah, if you think you are missing some extra grunt, then by all mean, go for it. The 1050 will work with your 144Hz screen (when using a USB-C to DP cable/adapter), but you aren't going to game at those framerates in current titles.
XPS 9530 (QHD, i7-4702HQ, 16GB, 512SSD) vs XPS 9560 (FHD, i7-7700HQ, 16GB, 512 SSD) - Should I upgra
