I am using USB 3.0 to Gigabit LAN adapter with my XPS 15. No matter what I tried, I cannot get it working at USB 3 speeds. All I can get is around 40 MB/s when copy files between computers. Same adapter connected to my old Thinkpad laptop get full 100 MB/s. Looking at Devices settings, I can see message " Device can perform faster when connected to USB 3.0" for this device.

Anybody here used USB 3 LAN or storage device and got it connected at USB 3 speeds?

Do you need drivers for it?

What is the exact model of the adapter you are using?

All of my USB 3 storage devices (thumb drives and external hard drives) give me USB 3 speeds.

That device has a drivers download page. Try installing drivers.

I have the latest driver for this device. Like I said, I have tried everything I could. I know the adapter is good since it works full speed on my 4 year old Thinkpad.

Using Anker Unibody Aluminum USB 3.0 to RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter [RTL8153 Chipset]. Have both the "Ethernet Adapter Silver" and larger "3-Port + 1 Ethernet Port". No issues with driver from Anker (installed driver first, before plugging in adapter). However, I had performance (and I think connection issues) until some Windows 10 update.

EDIT: Oh, forgot the important part - returned a SIIG adapter based on ASIX AX88179 chipset ( this one - red and black unit) due to connection and performance problems with the 9550 before I bought the Anker RTL8153 based adapter. Also, the SIIG adapter didn't physically fit in the left-hand USB port with A/C plug inserted at same time.

Did you try the Anker Type-C ethernet/usb version? I've bought 4 different ones (non realtek chipsets) and they all had issues with connecting usb devices or ethernet dies out randomly. This is just connecting mouse/keyboard/ethernet at the same time to the dongle.

I'm virtually giving up and thought about getting a dell dock wd15, but other people are saying it also has other major issues.

Haven't tried any Type-C (or USB 3.1) Ethernet adapters. Didn't see the need for 3.1 as 3.0 is fine for Gigabit Ethernet speeds.

Sorry, haven't tried any USB 3.1 hubs yet, either.
