I was looking to get the XPS (1080P) version with the smaller battery and wanted to know about the following:

    1. Is the output 4K on the HDMI port? I have a 4K TV, and although I wouldn't be using it for 4K gaming I would rather output 4K than 1080p and upscale.

    2. I was thinking about buying the cheapest i7 model and upgrade the ram to 16gb (2x8 g.skill), is this easy enough? Most videos show it being pretty simple and smooth.

    3. Any reason to go 4K over the 1080P model? To me, PC's seem to be 2-3 years away from being able to properly render 4K stuff anyways... I have a 4K work laptop and spend most of my time in 1080p because of awesome tiny buttons and such.

    4. The only other machine I was considering is the Asus Zenbook Pro UX501VW. Any thoughts? IT would cost about $90 more but have the 4K display instead of me spending $1350+$70 for RAM on the XPS.

1 no you need a usb 3.1 adapter for 4k
    2. yes but just get 16 gb in one dimm roll with 20 gb and then ugrade to 32 gb later

3 i watch everything in 4k only as far as movies. possibly ill use a egpu to game on 4k on. I would get the 4k its way nicer.

4 the 4k screen on the asus is inferior to the izgo screen

i got mine refurbished for 1100

if you are stuck inpaying the msrp and had to get a fhd for the same price.... ( which you definitely arent but anyhow) i would get the asus in that case

1, Others report 4k over HDMI but it is v1.2 so a max of 30fps @4k
2, 4k is really nice and most things work well with it, better to be able to drop to 1080 if needed than regret it later, you can't upscale 1080 to 4k but you can downscale 4k to 1080.
