    Hi,

I bought Dell XP 9560 more than two weeks ago. I can't wake up from sleep by pressing any keys on the internal keyboard except pressing the power button or click on the touchpad. I tried the following settings and solutions and still no help:

    1. BIOS Settings: I didn't find any setting where I can turn on or off to wake up from keyboard.

    2. Device Manager: I check both the property of keyboard and mouse and does not contain the Power Management Tab to enable or disable " Allow this device to wake the computer".

    3. A refresh install of Windows 10 1703 with the latest drivers from Dell support.

    4. Powercfg: I use the following the command line option. Both of them doesn't list keyboard.

    Enter: powercfg /devicequery wake_armed
    Result: None

    Enter: powercfg /devicequery wake_from_any
Result: Keyboard is not listed but touchpad is listed

    5. I contacted Delll support and they spend 3 hours remotely and couldn't figure out why.

    6. I search through internet and Dell's forum but find two posts related to Dell XPS 9560 or 9550. But no fixes for it.

Has anyone experience this issue before? I would really appreciated for any help you can provide. Thanks.

My laptop will automatic wake up from sleep by lifting up the panel lid.

By press power button, laptop will go to sleep mode, and its only able wake up via pressing power button again...

Yes you are correct. I forgot to mention that closing and opening the lids will put laptop to sleep or awake. That works fine too.

Are you able to wake up pressing a key in the keyboard?

I'm wondering if this is by design. This is the first time I experience this from a laptop.

I expect this is by design so why worry about it?

That's what I thought too and why I wanted to post here to confirm it.

The rep call me back yesterday and I ask him if he can confirm if this is by design. He said it is not and will pass onto the Leven 3 support to look into it next week.

Personally it is not a big deal with this.

I did went to Best Buy to check out other recent laptop. All of other brands can wake up using the keyboard. They don't xps 15 but the XPS 13" 2in1 wake up from keyboard but the XPS 13" don't.

Another interesting observation. On my XPS it takes 5 or 6 seconds to wake up from sleep. On XPS 13 2in1 takes less than 3 seconds, same with Lenovo Yoga 720 and 910 and Microsoft Surface Laptop and Book.

my new xps 9560 has the exact same problem.. has to use power button to walk it up.. I kinda think this is by design - or at least not a hardware issue with this unit.. I think most people use their lid to sleep/wake their laptop, so they dont notice.. I really dont want to put my laptop to sleep when closing the lid.

Is there a dedicated, assigned sleep/wake key?

Yeah we call it the power button as it's mapped as the sleep button by default.

In Windows 10: Settings --> Power and Sleep --> Additional Power Settings (top right) --> Change when the computer sleeps --> Change Advanced Power Settings --> "Allow Hybrid Sleep" ON, and INCREASE "Hibernate After" value. You can also choose what happens when you close the lid.

I own a Dell XPS 15 9550 and i have a similar problem. so when i close the lid and then open it up again i have to use the power button and it takes quite a long time to load back up again as well. i also have checked the power settings and i have noticed there is no setting to put it to sleep when you close the lid, there is only shut down, hibernate or do nothing.
