Do you have a cooling pad? If not, buy one, because they are a fairly good investment if you are using your laptop as a desktop replacement.

However, that is only a temporary solution, and I'm sure that won't fully fix it. When it hits that temperature, do the fans go right up or anything, or does it do anything different? Have you ever reapplied thermal paste?* What measures have you taken so far to stop it from getting so high?

*You will probably void your warranty in the process of doing this so you should probably only do it if you have no warranty.

MKelliny, do what Scorpeeon said. I received my XPS 16 last week and the first thing I did was the starting the undervolting process. It drops 10 degrees C after just the first adjust meant. However I also had a major heat issue near the touchpad. Notifying Dell resulted in my mother board and heat sink being replace. That made things worse and now they are supposedly coming to replace the plastic? bottom with a redesigned one to fix the heat issue. (which will hopefully fix everything else) :) good luck

You should invest in a 9 cell battery to permanently tilt the laptop.

Mine under peak conditions (gaming for > 1hour) never exceeds 130f (54-55c). The GPU on the other hand is roughly around 135-140 after an hour+ of gaming. Basically roughly 60c.

    JL6speed,
What program do you use to monitor all your temps? I downloaded HWmonitor, but it does not seem to display my gpu temp, just the two cores, the hdd and one other (which i forget what it is). *sorry for the hijack*

The thermal paste won't help alot with the SXPS 16.

The touchpad heat is due to the machines southbridge, not the heat sink. Just keep the notebook raised whenever possible, and always do your gaming on a cooling pad. With the Zalman NC2000, I never feel warm palmrests anymore. Check out my review of it here.
