What exactly is XPS customer service anyway? It's certainly not as good as Small & Medium Business customer service. Is it any better than/different from standard Home & Home Office customer service other than you calling a different phone number?

XPS customer service is in-house aka they go into your house and fix your lapy right in front of your eyes. Not sure if standard home & home office service has that.

Exactly. If you had an inspiron for example, you would have to send your computer to service, and wait about a week to get it back.
The xps warranty has the advantage that they come to you :D

and i think the business service is much better than the home one, since thats where dell makes money :) (not to mention they actually want business customers to stay with dell, so they do everything possible to provide the best service )

thats not true. all warrantys do come with next bussiness day. you dont always have to send the computer to depot. they will always send the parts as parts only or send a tech.

That's not true, it depends on the type of warranty you get. When my XPS M1330 died, they didn't send a tech out - I had to send it to the depot to get it repaired.

I'd expect that a $1500 XPS is much higher-margin than a $600 Vostro, yet the Vostro buyer gets business customer service whereas the XPS buyer gets the inferior XPS customer service.

But that's all beside the point - just what is XPS customer service?

The XPS warranty used to mean that the technical support would not be out sourced and calls technical support could be accessed quicker by phone but Dell has since changed their policy on that (instead "Your Tech Team" options replace that). The Dimension/Inspiron warranties certainly can include on-site service (which Dell has done on mine in the past). Currently the XPS/Inspiron/Dimension warranties are all the same AFAIK and make no difference. E.g. on my SXPS 1340 order, my warranty was even marked as an "Inspiron" warranty despite having the best one available (excluding the "Your Tech Team" options).
