I have an L501x with i5 460m, 4gb ram, nvidia 420m. I really like it and has served me well. I have a friend that wants to trade me his 15z with i5 2410m, 4gb ram, nvidia 525m. I know that the sandy bridge is better in performance and battery life, and that the nvidia 525m is a little faster. But, will I actually see that much more "real world" performance? I really love the speaker system in my l501x, so letting that go will be kind of difficult for me. Let me know what you think.

I also want to add that I play a lot of Diablo III, Battlefield 3, Spec Ops: The Line, and Counter-Strike: Source

What are the other downsides of the 15z? Does it also have a 1080p screen?

fo me, I'd take the 15z laptop. The specs are just alot better. While the 525m is essentially a overclocked 420m, but is probably made with better quality and can overclock better. Also, sandybridge is a real improvement over the first generation of i5s, so that's also a plus.

Idk, if there are any glaring problems with the 15z, let us know.

I'm actually not too sure about the screen resolution on the 15z. My l501x is just standard HD not FHD. The only downfall is that the chrome trim around the palmrest assembly has broken off, so I would have to buy a new palmrest assembly, but that's okay with me. I found some replacements for cheap. Is there anyway I can just buy the chrome trim and not the whole assembly?

Wow, the FHD is probably the best part of the l501x. I really don't know why your friend is willing to do this trade...

Don't know about the 15z, but it looks like the chrome trimming is part of the palmrest?

If you had the FHD screen, I'd say keep your L501X. Since you don't, all you have to decide is if you'll miss those amazing speakers (I would).

the speakers are nice,...but any external speaker will probably sound better.

IMO, I wouldn't do the trade.

The 15z to me is nothing special, it is like the millions of other laptops around.

The L501x (as well as the L502x) is probably the best multimedia notebook in it's class.
    - Amazing Screen and Speakers.
edit: sorry, you have the HD screen, in that case I would trade for the 15z. The 15z has better specs all around minus the speakers.

I've loved the L502x when it first came out and I'm going to keep mine until it breaks. An amazing notebook for everyday use from office work to multimedia, it'll be your companion for many years.

Yes, but who uses external speakers with a laptop every time they use it? Kind of defeats the purpose of it being a laptop...

I didn't want to start a new thread for such a simple question... Where is a good place to get a high quality battery for my L501x? I have a new 9-cell 6800mWh that I bought from china about a month ago and has already lost 22% of it's charge capacity. I get about 2 hours and like 10 minutes of web browsing. I wan't to buy another high capacity/high quality battery. Like another 9-cell or maybe a higher cell. Thanks for you help

Any help on the battery question will be great. I really don't want to start another thread just for a battery related question.

Yeah I can always buy it through dell but, they are a little pricey and I was hoping someone can recommend a cheaper site that they have personally bought from.

well, also I think the cooling system is better at the l501x and l502x comparing the to the 15z, and since you are going to gamming and overclock GPU heat may affect experience.

well, the 15z specs are a little better, but I just love the design of l501x and l502x <3

and like others said, the speakers at the xps l501x and l502x are awesome, specially cause the subwofer :)

Yeah, I decided to keep my l501x and upgrade it a little. I just bought an ocz vertex III ssd, and some corsair 8gb ram, and a HD bay for the optical drive. Now I'm wondering where there is a good place to buy a high quality 9cell battery, other then straight through dell.
