    I am very annoyed by the sheer interference of the big touchpad while typing. I am currently using Touchpal , a small utility to limit the interference of the touches. But still i want to disable to totally .

    Is there a way to remap the keyboard for a Fn key to activate/disable the touchapd ?

    This would be really helpful for many.

    There is such a key already. Check the orange icons on the F1, F2, etc keys. One of those toggles the touchpad on and off with Fn+Key. No remapping needed.

    Well, if the orange light above the touchpad is on, it means that the touchpad is disabled, if yours doesn't become disabled, then something is wrong.

    I created a small *.reg on the latest Synaptics drivers for my L501X adding this registry key that make the dedicated key to work again. Don't know if it will works on L502X (due the different key position), but trying can't harm :)
    At most you can remove the entry without any problem :)

    Check it and let me know! ;)

    You definitely need the driver for the button to work right...the orange light as others indicated means it ought to be disabled.

    The registry key should be someway included in the drivers provided by Dell. I "extracted" it to make it usable with standard Synaptics drivers (that brings other additional options) :p it can't works without them anyway ;)

    Yes , now after the driver installation , Fn key disables the touchpad. thanks guys. I still dont know why it didnt work on factory OS.

    @SimoxTa

    No it didnt work. I exactly wanted something like that. a simple remapping without a extra software running behind.

    hope someone works on similar thing with reg key editing.

    I know this is super old, but does anyone happen to have the .reg file still available? I would like to re-enable the dedicated touchpad button on my L501x with new drivers. Thanks

    I'm interested in this .reg file to. Maybe it could help me. Since upgrading to Windows 8 I'm not able to disable my touchpad. Just the orange lights turns off and on. Maybe someone is having the same probleme and found a solution?
