Just from last night, the audio jack started behaving strangely. A pop up from the tray icon will say "You just plugged a device into the audio jack." and then shortly after, "A device has been unplugged from the audio jack." The process is repeated until I restart the computer. But, I'm not plugging/unplugging things into the audio jack.
I thought it may be the Windows 7 update caused it, so I did a system restore, not working.
Uninstall the software installed yesterday, not working.
Dell Diagnostic tool used, passed...
Any other idea that may solve this? Don't want to replace the mother board... ;(
I can hear audio from the earphone if I really plug my earphone into the audio jack.
What I suspected is that, something on the motherboard went wrong, thought the earphone plugged in, and found out wrong short after. When the information pops up, I can hear the music is cut off first then back to normal.
It all happened last night. I took off the earphone, the first time, no sound from the laptop speaker. After being silent for a while, on the right bottom corner, a windows popped, saying A device has been unplugged from the audio jack, then the laptop speaker started to play music. After this, the issue arose.
The issue usually happens randomly. I followed some advice from the internet, did error checking, tried my best to clean the audio jack (such small hole, hard to clean...).... So far it seems all right, have to wait if this issue is solved or not.

well, you can try cleaning the audio jack with something very thin into the hole and cleaning it, also can try to blow/puff air into the audio jacks.
try unistall all audio drivers/software drivers related with the sound. like the dell sound drivers and wavex maxxaudio related and install them again.
check also if there is any audio software/drivers update from dell's site.
even reciving the audio jack warnings, do the sound come out normally from the speakers without interruptions? or it switch to headphones automatically? -
Hi, capitankasar, thanks for the suggestions. The sound was interrupted when the warning came out.
I have tried my best to clean the audio jack using a brush, reinstalled the audio driver, did error checking.
So far, the warning didn't show up since last night, just have to wait and see. Luckily, I have 3-year warranty... still in the warranty period.... -
lets hope the problem got fixed
else call dell and ask for a repair or a replacement ^^
