So, I've got my L502x which I've had since early April. It has the bluray reader / dvd writer drive, but the bluray player is no longer recognized... though I can read/write cds/dvds... I did do a clean install, though before I flashed to the most recent bios I had the bluray reader working. Now, using the cyberlink BD & 3D advisor program the bluray drive is not even recognized...

I tried installing the 'DS-6E2SH 12.7 Tray BD-Combo' driver from the dell site, but get the following message:
    "No matched drive detected!
This utility is only for PLDS DVDRWDB DS-6E2SH Ver: 1.00 drive.
    Detected Drives:
    0-0-1-0 D:HL-DT-STDVDRWBD CT30N A101
    2-0-0-0 F :DTSOFT BDROM 1.05"

But I see no drivers listed for either drive and am at a bit of a loss of how to get this working... any advice would be much appreciated, and I can provide any other info if this seems insufficient. Thanks!

Does Windows see an inserted Blu-Ray disk?

Not all drives Dell uses get firmware updates.

Dell uses different drives in laptops.I think curently is an LG one. The firmware posted is for another model I think a Samsung. Anyway it's not a driver is a firmware update. This only changes usually support for some newer manufacturers of blank media, and mai fix bugs if any). If your drive worked before with blank media you have you don't need an update.Windows should be able to access the drive without any driver as it's a standard SATA device.I think I even tried after I've got the exact model of the drive to download the latest firmware from lG and it was the same as the original one which comes with the laptop, so ayway you will not get anything new. The firmware is inside the drive flash so it will not be affected if you reinstall the OS.

When you insert a Blu-ray disk, and open Windows explorer can you see the folders on it ? If yes, it's not the drive, but maybe the software you use to play it. If not, try another disk, maybe your player just can't read that specific disk. Try with a comercial movie blu-ray disk, not a burned one.Try another software many gives you a free trial, or use VLC player and check.
