    As to the SSD, no.

    1) The drive is an mSATA, which would require the PCI Express slot to be attached to a motherboard SATA controller.
    2) In theory, a mini-PCI Express SSD with an on-board SATA controller (like the SuperTalent CoreStore MV) could work. However, either the PCI slot has been 'nerfed' to only work with the WWAN/TV Tuner cards, and/or the BIOS doesn't recognize it.

Also, no on RAID. Even the l702x which has 2 hard drive bays doesn't have RAID, Dell stupidly disabled it despite the chipsets being capable of it.

NO, as two people have said here. There is a whole thread on this, no one has gotten anything to work on the XPS series. Something Dell has done to the slot so it only works with WWAN/WLAN cards apparently.
