    Hi everyone.

I just bought a new Xps l502x laptop last week and my 4yr old sister scratched the screen using i guess pen to play with the multi-touch screen.

I tried a lot of solution i found on net to try to remove the scratches but with no success.

I think the last solution is to replace the screen which will be very difficult for me as i live in Mauritius and we dont have any DELL store here. We have only service providers, i think they can replace it but it'll cost me a lot more..

    I have 3 questions

My display is the 15.6IN MULTI-TOUCH HD WLED TL, Is it necessary to replace it with a same one or can i switch to a fullhd one with no multi-touch?

I think that the multi-touch screens comes in two part, i mean i can see a ( i dont know how to call it) but its like another transparent screen in front of the lcd with a lot of dots on it. It is possible to replace only the front part?? or i have to replace both?

Thanks and sry for bad english.

Check out the service manual on the web site. It should give you the info your looking for. Sorry about your laptop, my son spilled water in one of mine when he was six.

Well, I'm not sure how the xps 15 multi touch screen works or how bad your scratch is, but maybe you can try applying a matte screen protector?

I am suggesting this because the way matte overlays work is by slightly diffusing the light coming from your screen... so I assume that this would also serve to hide minor scratches and such. I did some light googling and it appears that it does work, but I haven't seen anything solid regarding the issue. (Link)

If it is a capacitive touch screen then I don't know if applying a screen protector would block the touch features or not, might have to do some reading on that.

The dell site. Put in your service tag for support and you should find the service manual there.

If you call dell, I am sure they can help you figure this out. I would say you should be able to, but I am not 100% sure. Again, I am really sorry this happened, I know how you feel.

You don't have to replace the LCD, only the touch layer,. if i recall correctly there are 2 different units.

New screen costs <$100 on ebay, the touch layer, i have no idea. I suppose you can remove it to find out what model it is.
