Well, has been a while since I passed by this forum.
A few days ago, I was watching a video on my XPS (details of the machine in my sig) and when done, I closed the lid to put it in standby. The lid closed a little harder than usual and the strange thing is, the computer instantly stopped, giving no sign of life. Since then I have been completely unable to switch it on.
I've taken it apart to see if anything was loose in it in terms of cables, cleaned out the fan and even did the thermal repasting of the proc and GPU (for good measures) and put it all back together, but to no avail, my machine just refuses to switch on.
I tried both with and without the battery (which is fully charged), and also did the procedure to remove any latent orders given by the power on button.
My main problem is that there is no LED on the motherboard that can tell me if power is coming to it or not, which would help in maybe diagnosing the problem.
Anyone encountered a similar issue on their systems? Do I have to say goodbye to my trusty 5 year old machine?
Any help if most welcome.![]()

Not sure about your particular machine, but usually you should hear beeps, during post if something is wrong. If you're not hearing any beeps, then you don't get to the post and that could be bad news: the main power supply that regulates and supply power to cpu would be my first guess, less likely cpu itself.

Yes, the beeps are indeed what I used to diagnose problems on other Dell machines (along with the LEDs) but here, the machine does not power on at all. No lights, no fan... just no sign of life.
XPS L701x - closed the lid and now wont boot up
