A friend of mine brought his L701X to me to clean it out. It kept overheating and we both assumed after owning it for a year the heatsink fin's are probably pretty dirty. After the extensive process of getting to the heatsinks, removing them, cleaning off all the paste, putting on new paste, and cleaning out the fin's, i put it all back together. It wont turn on now. Ive cleaned hundreds of laptops with no problems in the past. The ribbon from the power button to the mobo seams fine. Im getting absolutely nothing out of this thing. The battery was fully charged prior to disassembling. When i plug in the laptop, the battery light turns on for about 3 seconds then turns off. Is this normal? Anyone have any tips as to what to do next? I found this site because of the L701x LCD swap thread, so im hoping someone else has run into this issue. Thanks.

other than the standard re seat all the cables you had disconnected - try removing the hard drive, CD ROM, Wifi card and boot off a single memory DIMM (trying the memory in the different slots) and see if it comes to life

Glad u found the problem. I have seen a bad DIMM in the first memory slot cause a non boot condition many times, along with bad drives in the buss load down the motherboard and cause a non boot problem.
I have not seen one around, u may have to get one from Dell or try the Parts people -
you might have to buy a broken one for spares, if they dell don't sell them.
XPS L701x wont boot after cleaning.
