Just recieved it today, and am getting no more than 36kps download speeds. Diagnostics say its okay. Driver is the latest from Dell. Their tech support was worthless. I dont understand it.

I havent cycled my router/modem. I guess that should be the first thing I do now. Why didnt I think of that before typing on my tablet?

Anyone else have the same issue though?

If it's a new laptop, I think most probably the problem lies with your internet connection/router or the website host.

Reset the router modem....it went up to like 1.1MB for like 10 seconds, then plummeted back to 50k or less.

If this happens at my work tonight then this thing is going back. I won't accept a repair for a one day old system.

Which WLAN card do you have? If an Intel, get the latest driver from Intel. Also check the connections on the WLAN card, no point in wasting time with an RMA if something just got jiggled loose during shipping.

joehempel, have you figured out what was wrong with it? I got mine few days ago and I'm experiencing same problem with way too slow Wi-Fi speeds when I'm trying to download something. Right now Ive been testing my new Dell l702x and my old Asus K50AB download speeds, and there's a huge difference in favor of the second one. I'm using latest drivers from Intel website for my Intel Wireless-N 1030 adapter. So what am I missing?

It's really hit or miss. Sometimes if I download from a torrent I can download 8GB of stuff in like 2 hours.

Other times if I download from a website it can take 5 minutes for a 50mb file.

The Intel 1030 is a pretty entry level WLAN card, 2x1. It's basically an Intel Wireless 1000 with Bluetooth. You could consider like a 5100 or 5300, they would outperform a 1030 but no Bluetooth.

Also stuff like your router and interference make a difference in speeds and signal strength.

I had the 1030 card when my laptop came and it worked fine for me, i just used the included drivers then i upgraded to the 6230 and it works fine to again it just picked up the drivers on its own, i just had to re-enter the network key.

when i have had wireless problems in the past i had the luck of having two different routers to try out to isolate the problem.

you also might look into your software, for firewalls etc, sometimes they do weird things.

Ok guys, things moved a little forward. My router (Linksys WRT160Nv3) was set to N-Only network mode and download speed was terrible. Then I switched it to BG-Mixed mode and now download speed is perfect, like it should be. So I assume this Intel Wi-Fi adapter is not completely compotable with N protocol, or?

    I exchanged my 2.4Ghz 1030 card for dual band 2.4/5Ghz 6230 recently.

With dual band base station (apple extreme) the 1030 card pegged at constant 65mbps.

The 6230 card runs 130 mbps plus easily, and usualy way above that.

Running the 6230 on 'wirless N only'.. gave 300 mbps but in reality due to location of router to the laptop being used..it slowed down quite quickly.

I run the 6230 on mixed dual band and it usually runs on 2.4 band unless close to the router when signal stength picks up to 5ghz levels.

    Regards.

Tried a few of the suggestions here and still having this issue. 1030 Intel Adapter, my router is the CDG24N that comes standard with my carrier for cable.

I had a similar problem, enabling intel mywifi which apparently turns your laptop into a wifi hotspot fixed it.

I think your issue is related to the power options, so first update the driver then do this :

Do you see the battery icon at the task bar ( far right)

    1) Right click on the battery icon and choose power options

    2) You will see 2 options under ( PLAN SHOW ON THE BATTERY METER)

    3) Go to change plan settings for each of them ( Do it one at a time)

    4) Go to change advanced power settings

    5) Scroll down and click on the cross beside wireless adapter settings

    6) Expand power saving mode option

    7) Change it to Maximum Performance ( for both on battery and plugged in)

    Restart after you finish.
