Has anyone swapped it out? I'm considering upgrading my T5600 to a T7600. My only concerns are that Dell might have a trap of sorts (seal or something) internally that will allow them to know I changed it out and voided my warranty. Also heat. I hit ~80C with a game or CPU intensive app running as it is. Would the T7600 overload the puny cooler? Anyone here have a T7600 m1210? Also in the service manual it show some pretty thick thermal pads. Would the cooler make contact with an actual TIM or do I need their pads?

Yesterday I swapped out the old core duo 2300 for a new core 2 duo 7200, I also put on artic silver 5, which I believe will lower the heat after a couple of months. It was straight forward, no problems at all.

Seal or no seal, they will definitely know if you change the processor. They know exactly what parts your notebook had when it was shipped out ( tracked by the service tag).

Does the warranty get voided if I install RAM myself? Because if so, then I need to call them to tell them I would like 2 GB's instead of 1. BTW, I'm talking about Dell.

no, they consider RAM a user upgradable part yet the new ram will not be covered by dell

I'm not retarded. I'd switch it back to the T5600 if I needed to send it in for repair. I should probably save the thermal pads to so they don't ask me why the CPU and GPU have a real TIM on them as well.

I have a XPS m1210 when it first came out which is the dual core processor. It has a t2300 processor. So I want to know if I can upgrade the processor buying another chip and swapping it out. Is there any other cost involved. For anyone that has done this, what is the ballpark cost to another processor (i.e. 7000 or higher) and how fast of a processor can I go up to.

im pretty sure that a T9600 will go in; whether that will be sufficiently cool is a big question; probably a T9500 would be the best way to go if i was in your position; the 1210s are notoriously hot-running without the modified heatsinks and fans that dell was giving out before they discontinued the model; might want to look into that first
