    Hi,

I just received my new XPS M1330, and I think it's great. There is one problem though: With varying volume and a more or less regular frequency (about once every 1 - 5 seconds), I can hear sounds similar to a moving watch hand. They appear to originate from the openings at the bottom right-hand corner of the picture below. Any Ideas?

You mean it is normal? Or does it have to be replaced/repaired?

I think it's normal. Both the hard drive in my 1720 and the hard drive in my M1330 periodically make this little "chirp" sort of sound.

Hmm, any HD makes some noise. I just want to be sure mine is not broken. Would you agree this HD is a bit louder than most others (I mean this "chirp" sound in particular)?

Its the hard drive parking the heads to save power.

You can get rid of this behavior if you go into the bios and select "performance" for the drive profile. Worked for me.

I have not really measured battery life changes since I made the change.

Battery life will be impacted, because your drive will not conserver power. Testing it would be challenging.
