About three months ago, my m1330 began running very hot. Fans full blast most of the time. I began reading about the problems with the video card and the heat distribution. Wow, I really loved my m1330 but I could see this meant I was close to the end with it.
Rather than attempting to solve the issue, I went out and bought an XPS 15 L502X. Beautiful machine but a little too heavy - really nice though. It went back and Dell gracefully waived the restocking fee because I have been faithful to Dell since 1999. Then the Lenovo Thinkpad X220 caught my eye. I bought one of those. Also a great machine but it had fan whine and a weird trackpad. Both issues were not really solvable so it went back.
That left me with my m1330. Right now it is sitting on my lap with a CPU temp of 45 degrees. Here is what I did. I am running Vista and I followed these tips to speed up vista to free up system resources: 15 Vista Speed Up tips | BizzNtech
I stopped all services that I don't use. I disabled all unnecessary startup programs. I turned off some of the aero enhancements. Also, I bouthgt a can of air from Staples and opened up the fan/memory compartments and blew all the dust out.
It is amazing but my machine is doing great.
I really love the m1330. The screen is very nice, the keyboard is well designed, it is light and nice looking.
I like it and I'm happy!

my m1330 broke the other day. not the heat issue (i had actually got them to give me a high-end model but without the nvidia card, simply because i don't game on it and i wanted to avoid the heat issue). instead the keyboard controller started behaving oddly (typing g5 when i hit g, etc) and most recently it won't boot. diagnostics says it's a drive failure. so glad i backed up everything.
now i'm in the market for another laptop. have also considered the lenovo thinkpad x220 but i just can't get excited about it. i actually think i'll go for a 13" macbook pro. still weighing my options. -
