    Hi there,

Recently took delivery of my XPS M1330. Many positive things about the machine but also a couple of concerns...

    1) Does anyone else's M1330 have a keyboard that noticably 'flexes' (press a key and then press down)?

On my Inspiron 9300 there was no travel whatsoever, but on this XPS there is a noticable amount of 'give' particularly on the right hand side of the keyboard.

    2) More worryingly, I am concerned that there is a production defect on the lid. The main centre part of the lid is split into three sections (on my machine they are black). The join between the large middle section (with the Dell logo on it) and the narrow section at the front of the machine (when the lid is closed) is neat and flush on the right hand side but is most definitely not on the left hand side.

    Please see the images below:

Is this a manufacturing / production defect?

Anyone else's M1330 look like this?

I really hope you can help me out. Thanks very much in advance.

This has been discussed over and over and over and over again.....

    1. Flex in the keyboard...yes normal and not like that on all. My opinion is, if it isn't visually bubbled and you cant use it as a trampoline, its not that bad...

    2. Your lip... I identified that about a week ago and many said it seemed normal. On the other side, received one yesterday with an absolutely perfect top. There isnt even a bump near where the camera is...Most overlooked this that I am aware of.

Lastly...where did you get that neat brown colour 1330???

    1) Very common problem. I've had 3 M1330's. 2 of them had no flex whatsoever and 1 has flex. I can't say for sure, but it seems like there may be more than one keyboard manufacturer. One particular keyboard has alot more travel in the keys, but I've come to prefer this keyboard as it just seems more responsive and provides better feedback. This is also the one with the flex.

    2) Most of us have some gap there, but not so big. It is a manufacturing defect, but not a serious problem if you are okay with the way it looks. These various gaps aren't discovered in production. I can imagine the workers become so accustomed to seeing M1330's they overlook these gaps sometimes.

Here's a weird issue I have. 2 M1330's, 1 of them has a loose battery, while the other doesn't. Take out the loose battery, and replace with battery from other machine that is solid. Battery is still loose on this machine even after replacement! Must be something in the assembly of the laptop. Dell can't get it right 100% of the time.

flamenko buy a camera, a bright yellow light and a black xps, then you'll have brown :)

Thanks for the feedback guys - much appreciated.

flamenko: Sorry, didn't realise this one had already been covered (and covered and covered!...)

I guess I'll learn to live with it then!

none of those problems you've mentioned i can put pics up if you want to see the extent - my only problem so far is that the XPS lettering fell out so a replacement lid is on its way.
