    Hi all,

First post, planning to buy a Dell XPS M1330 from the UK. Have some questions.

    1. Is the build quality satisfactory from Dell UK?
    2. Do the earbuds and carry case come with notebooks from Dell UK?
EDIT: 3. Is wireless N significantly different to the standard card on a normal 'G' Router?

    Many thanks,

    Shonak.

    1. All notebooks are either made in Malaysia or Ireland. Ireland build quality is what you're looking for.
    2.
    3. N, bluetooth can be added later if you need i.

    2. all xps' come with the xps sleeve and the headphones
    3. I'm pretty sure you can upgrade either afterwards but $15-$20USD to upgrade bluetooth from dell doesnt seem too unreasonable (since its about the same price if you buy it separately and install it yourself.... so why not both? =) i'm assuming bluetooth is easier to upgrade though so n...

Thank you for posting replies! :)

    Have a couple more questions:

    - If i buy the 120 gig hard disk, how much space will i have left after vista HP, media experience, partitions, bloatware etc?
    - Is it worth for 40 GBP ($80 USD) upgrading a T7100 to a T7300? I will generally use it for surfing, office applications, occasional gaming, serious multitasking, media apps. Will there be a major performance difference?

    Thanks!

    Shonak

Wi-fi and BT are quite different things (even though they are both wireless). It is not reasonable to say you'll get one or the other but not both. I suggest taking the time to understand what they are and to figure out which one you need. Or get both, they don't cost enough to worry about. It's far easier to get everything from the beginning.

I believe the computer arrives with slightly under 25GB of the HD used.

No one can tell you whether a faster CPU is worth it, because it depends on what you want to do. Some things (like calculations) are CPU-limited; others (like games) are GPU-limited, others (like databases) are hard-disk-limited. You will get an increase in CPU speed, which will make a difference to some things but not to others. OK, a simpler answer: it is probably not worth the extra money, except to those who want to get the top configuration and then keep their laptops for as long a time as possible.

for $80 i would get the T7300 so you get the 4MB cache... once you hit 2.0GHz i wouldn't even look into getting the next two upgrades unless your getting them thrown at you for free; less significant performance gain and more costly

i agree - T7300 seems to be the sweet spot between performance and price in this line.

Yeah, 40GBPs doesn't seem like too much for the upgrade - relative to the system cost and would be worth it as you seem to plan on using it quite intensively.

The main data partition was 100GB on my system and I had around 83-84GB free when I first booted up the system.

see, i have a really strict budget. i can claim tax off, and *hopefully* haggle dell
a bit. This looks like the perfect system i need, though, because i am on the move quite a bit.

6 gigs are used for the recovery partition. Another ~15 is used on the OS.

I would opt for the 7300 at least. Thats what I have and I kinda wish I had had the money to upgrade beyond that.

IMO, t7300 hits the sweet spot in performance/battery life ratio/heat :)
