So I recently got my M1330 and 4GB of 800MHz ram. I noticed that the ram gets underclocked to 667MHz but on DELL'S Website -> http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...=en&s=dhs&cs=19&kc=productdetails~xpsnb_m1330

Dell shows that you can configure the laptop with 800MHz ram and that it is an upgrade. Why does this not work for me. Do they put in a different motherboard if you decide to configure it with 4-8GB 800MHz ram, or w/e?

The M1330 uses a P965M chipset, which only supports memory up to 667MHz. The fact that Dell is selling 800MHz memory does not mean it will run at that speed.

So people would be paying like $600 extra for no performance (speed) increase but only extra ram?

That's correct. The cost difference (for someone like me, doing an aftermarket upgrade) between 4GB and 6GB of RAM is about 350 dollars though, because 4GB SO-DIMMs are so expensive.
