Hello everyone,
I have an XPS M1330 purchased about 2 years ago.
The screen went extremely dim permanently one day when the battery reached its near absolute low. For some reason the screen came back to a brightly lit life after a system restore. The same problem occurred again and sadly after sitting on it a few weeks I did not have a restore point old enough to troubleshoot with the same solution.
Now I'm not sure if system restore really had anything to do with the monitor crapping out because I've never heard of such a scenario, but I'm just going to throw it out there on the off chance that it does.
So I replaced the following parts: Inverter Board, CCFL Cable, Monitor Lamp.
Still the same problem! Computer works fine when I attach an external monitor. On the laptop screen, only about 80% of the dimly lit display appears. And if it helps, I'm using a third-party A/C adapter. Any advice on what to replace from here?

Anything in mind guys? I'm still unsure what to do here..

Same problem here with an Acer Timeline 13inch. It started with a small spot on the Vista start button. After 1 week it consumed 90% of the screen. The only part which is not dimmed is the right hand side of the screen...
Is there a fix for this? Or do i have to send it to repair? -
Yikes. I would wait to hear from the others but I would say it's most likely a hardware issue. I've replaced several parts so far, the only other part besides the screen I can think to replace for this particular problem is the motherboard which houses the integrated graphics chip (in your case, you may have a graphics card separate from the mboard)...
