    Hi,
Have bought the new SSD 840 from Samsung in order to speed up my Dell m1330, but unfortunately the bios doesn't recognize the SSD :( (have tried on 2 differentt m1330 - same thing)
Anyone who have tried with succes or have done a workaround or have any suggestion on what to do?

I have the latest updates on everything from Dell m1330 (bios A15 etc).

    Thanks
    Ole

Do you have AHCI enabled in BIOS?

    Thank you for your reply.
Yep - did try both ATA and AHCI (default).

Have you tried the ssd in a different model machine? (not-dell)
There could be a chance it's DOA.

I tried install it in a Packard Bell just to see if the bios would recognize it - and it did. I also tried to install the drive in a USB SATA II box and migrated my current HDD to it and that also went well - it's only when installing it in the SATA port in my M1330 that things doesn't work. I'm not able to boot from my current HDD or the SSD if they are installed in the USB - meaning no boot from USB HDD. Should there be any drivers present on the SSD for the bios to recognize it, or does the bios recognize any standar drive no matter what if it is a standard SATA?

I had an almost similar problem with SSD in mine (m1330) turns out it was plugged in correctly once i figured out what was going and that it wasn't really plugging when it felt like it was it was PITA to actually get it install right. I started by sliding it in with out the cover or screws once i got it in i tried again with the cover and once i got plugged in correctly i installed the screws.

Mind i do this for living and have taken apart and resembled my fair share of laptops, I think it has something to do with the SDD or rather my SSD being slimmer than a normal 9.5mm hdd.

    It sure is snappy now.

Thanks cdoublejj - yesterday evening I also located the problem and is was exactly the same as you described - even though it felt that the ssd was correctly mounted in the connector it wasn't so when I installed the ssd by holding the laptop over my head when sliding the ssd in it did attach correctly - and yes - it must be because the ssd is thinner. Now everything works well and I am a happy man :)
wow one can use an horrible amount of time strugling with such problems ....

Well these units are actually well designed. both the slot loader dvd drive and slide HDD installation/bay aren't' good ideas.

I had the same problem when I fitted my SSD, after I figured out what was going on, it was all good.
