    Hi,

I have two years old M1330. Recently i had infamous video problem on M1330, so Dell replaced the motherboard. currently i have on window 7 32bit.

But after that my m1330's video is fine, but it just shut down all of sudden. sometimes it shuts down when it is booting or it shuts down after 20-30 mins of use.

And it also turns on by itself. It is not restarting, it just turns on automatically. after i shut down the m1330 properly, after few min, it just turns on again. I also disable restart fuction on window 7. but it still turns on by itself. Some time, if i touch the side of m1330, it turns on. and when i open the lid of m1330, it turns on. it is driving me crazy   .

after these issue, i sent my m1330 back to dell, and they replaced the fan and heat sink. but after they replace these parts, it still shut down and turns on automatically. and dell is now saying that it is not motherboard issue. since i have no warranty left, they also said they can not help anymore  .

anyone know what cause these issues? and how to fix it?

    thanks in advance.

My advice would be to ask Dell to replace multimedia panel and /or all cables.
Seem like something is shorting out on you.
    Good luck.

    thanks for the quick reply.

since i have no more warranty left, i dont think dell will replace it for free.

is it hard to replace them and is it expensive to replace them?

One sec you've been a member since 2007... :frown: :eek2:
Back to the matter I would still flash the bios you have nothing to loose and cost you the download time. Once you have flashed your rig update your settings within the bios time date and another settings to suit then safe them before exit and take it from there.
Where about on this planet are you?
PM me your location if you want.

No problem taking a back seat from time to time.
Yes flash using same version here http://ftp.dell.com/bios/M1330A15.EXE
the bios should flash if it does not because you have said bios already down grade to http://ftp.dell.com/bios/M1330A14.EXE then back to A15
I had a spare brand new unused media panel someplace I see if I can locate it.
Sorry for the wait was on my GSM.

i re-flash BIOS, and it didnt help. it keeps shutdown and restart by itself. :(

i guess i have to dissemble it and look inside for any damage cable or multimedia panel.

    ** update **

i dissembled M1330, and i didnt find any damaged cables. Inside of M1330 look very clean and nothing seems to be problem. Also multimedia panel looks fine. damn...

So i restore my M1330 to factory setting(back to Vista) if this will help, but still same issue. shut down and turns on by itself.

i dont dont know what to do now. I'm out of warranty so i cant even send it to dell now.

try checking behind the lcd screen my m1330 had a wire that was cut by the hinge and it caused it to burn some other wires and my laptop would just short out like yours but it would not restart on its own though.

    Hi,

I have a M1330 bought in 2007 (so out of warranty as well) and a few moths ago started doing the same random shut down. It does not starts by it self though. I am not computer parts literate, so I took to a "relieble" workshop (in the community college I work, at least the charge cheaply), but only suggested changing the power adapter form 60 w to 90w. But found on similar blogs that did not work either. Any new findings on this problem?
