So I turned on my M1330 this morning and didn't see anything on the screen. Then I saw a very very faint picture, like the backlight was not on at all. I went through several cold boots w/ and w/o battery, AC adapter, etc. Then I hooked it up via HDMI to a TV and I got a picture on the TV fine, but the laptop display still was very very faint, couldn't see it.

Then 1 hour later I turned it back on and still nothing. Then I closed the lid and opened it, and voila, the backlight turned back on.

Anyone have any idea what is going on here!!??

Maybe your LCD is dying? LED screens don't have inverters.

Shoot, that can't be good. Has anyone ever heard of an LED screen like mine dying before? Or could it be pinched cable related possibly?

Another thing, my warranty ran out in August 2010. But there is still a 1 year extension for GPU problems right? So could this be a GPU problem, or if it was, would I just not get any picture at all (which is kinda what I'm thinking)?

For anyone wondering, the display cable that connects at the bottom of the LCD panel worked its way loose over the past 3 years. So it's now securely attached and no more backlight problems for a while (I hope)

I just had this problem crop up two days ago. Thank you for the follow-up. I'll be poking at mine sometime soon, and I'm glad to know there is some hope of a really easy fix.

My wife's notebook had this happen too. Except I'm pretty sure that hers worked loose after she dropped it on the floor. All is good now though, not terribly hard to fix when you know what you're looking for.

Yup hopefully it will work for you too, and the service manual makes it real easy to take the laptop apart/put back together

The screen inverter may be dead

Try opening up your computer and physically disconnecting and then firmly reconnecting the display cable again. Ensure it doesn't come off when you are reassembling the computer also.
