hi, my sisters xps is about a year old, and now the lid look likes this.
she uses it for work everyday, put in and pull out from the included sleeve almost everyday. is that the reason of the discolour? she tried to clean it with light soft damp cloth but doesnot work..

any xps users here had the same problem?

I believe this may be caused by the fine oil from the hands being absorbed into tiny holes in the matte finish of the paint over time.

    My theory is this:

    1. Is caused by the right hand reaching up to close the laptop.

    2. 3. And 4. Are the main places to hold/carry /manoeuvre the laptop when it is being taken out of said case or placed at the desk etc.

To clean this I would recommend first trying with a damp anti static cloth. If this does not work use a VERY LITTLE amount of warm soapy water (dampen the cloth with it) to try and rub it away.

Let us know how you get on!

If you look at any older Lenovo with the matte black finish, you see the same problem. I think you notice it more because of the color.

i clean my lid with alcohol ( such as the one you can get in a pharmacy) which helps a lot to remove the grease stains, ive had my laptop for a year now and my lif is still in good condition :D

maybe you could try it, what do you have to loose? its already discolored hehe
