Is this by design? I never noticed it before, and I'm wondering if it's always been that way, or if something has recently gone wrong. I have it set not to go to standby or anything when I close the lid, but it seems like it should still turn the backlight off to conserve battery.

There is a magnet in the lid near the camera and a sensor in the same position under the palmrest.

Probably the cable of the sensor in the palm rest has come loose.

That's the weird thing... the sensor actually works. When I set it to standby when the lid closes, it does.
