I thought it would be interesting to put up a poll regarding the place of manufacture. (I hope this wasn't posted before)

I believe somwhere around 70-80% of Dell's notebooks are made in Penang, Malaysia.

Of the various laptops I've ordered for clients, they've all said, IIRC, Made in Malaysia.
Mine is relatively clean - slight extra gap between the left hinge and center bar and the remote does stick out from the ExpressCard slot a bit. -
Mine is made in China (I believe in Xiamen). I think this factory serves China, Hong Kong?, Japan, S.Korea.
I think the Malaysian factory supports N.America and maybe the rest of the Americas.
I think the Irish factory supports the EU.
(By manufacturing within major trade blocks import duties are probably minimized) -
Mine was made in Malaysia, I'm very happy with the quality of the laptop.

It's usually manufactured in China(chassis and all), and configured to your order in Malaysia or Ireland where all the parts are then sent.
