    Dear All,

Yesterday, out of nowhere, I started having this issue.

The battery showed up completely empty (just some 4% remaining). I plugged in the AC line, and it started charging, but for some strange reason, it just stops around 6%. Status is "Plugged in, not charging".

I checked the battery first, no flashing lights but only 1 green light was coming on - meaning it was really out of charge.

I removed / reinserted the battery, and the AC line, again the same problem.

Tried with the 6-cell battery to see if its charging, and it does charge without any issue. So, I was thinking there wasn't any issue with the AC input jack on the laptop.

Today morning, I put in the 9-cell again, and wanted to see if its charging but it did not.

Google'd and found many different solutions. I checked in the BIOS and set, even tried loading the 'default' value.

I tried again to just twitch the power jack in the laptop a little, to see if its really something to do cable / jack, and I found that it did charge. And surprisingly, it just went from 6% charge to 100% in like 3 minutes

Any idea what could be happening here? I wanted to know a little bit more from the experts here before I get in touch with Dell.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Update:

I think its a problem with the power input jack on the laptop. I got in the 6 cell again, and had to twitch n turn a little bit the power input to get it charging.

I read that it could be with the connection between the power jack n the main board, or simply the jack itself. Should I get in touch with Dell or is it possible to have this checked with an experienced computer tech locally?

    Thanks again.

This is a common problem. It's either your motherboard or your AC adaptor. Call Dell and get it checked out.

    Dear All,

    Update:

I observed that this issue with battery not charging is happening only with the 9-cell. With the 6-cell, the charging is fine (sometimes I need to twist or turn the AC plugin a tiny little bit, but this I think probably comes from the usage. I will have this checked out!).

Could it be the 9-cell battery itself and nothing with the AC jack or the motherboard or similar? The battery is around 17 months old now.

    Thanks.
