MY Desktop normally has 3 partitions, namely OS, Apps, and Personal Files, with later builds having a 4th partition for Games.

I'd like to add a second partition to the XPS M1530 but it gives me no option after shrinking C to create a simple partition in the remaining space - of any size?

Any ideas? I've got a 3 year warranty so didn't want to ruin that by reformatting the whole drive adn destroying the restore partition.

I'm not too happy installing Office 2007 and such on C: which already had 8GB of bloat anyway. :(

Loving the new machine either way! :p

You may want to just fresh start.

There are few free programs like magic partition to repartition in dos.

You gotta burn a cd out of it first, then f12 to boot to it, delete/format partitions, assign partions etc, then reinstall OS.

I couldn't tell you much else other than that.

Thats not necessary. You can start with the MediaDirect 3.3 CD and from there, create partions. After its been completed, it will ask for the vista cd.

Does this involve completely reformatting? Won't that dump on my warranty?

As it happens - mines got some electrical leakage through the palm rest - quite the judder actually, and it's only there when on mains adapter which is concerning at 240V.

Calling Tech to register my moderate disgust, but also found this thread useful.

Your warranty is unaffected by what you choose to install on your drive, or indeed what you choose to remove.

If you're happy with the rest of the machine apart from the leakage issue, try requesting a 3-prong fully earthed mains adaptor, as this should cure it.

The only way to do this is to reformat and do a clean install.

Having used my chat about earth leakage with the very helpful Damien at XPS support to cover off the above, he's pretty much said what you kindly offered up - namely do as you please which is cool.

I'm gonna Clone the drive with True Image 11 onto my MyBook and then install Vista and Media Direct from scratch on a clean partition.

New Power Adapter arriving tomorrow and concerns quelled.

    Thank you all.

By way of further install based questions - do I start with Media Direct Disc, or install Vista and then install Media Direct?
