Top lid is scratched and want to change color from Black to Blue.
Is it difficult to changeover?
Know of any writeups on the procedure?
Thanks,
Paul

That could be on the expensive side. You'd have to remove the display assembly, then the bezel and display itself, and be left with the display back cover (lid). You'd have to order a new one of those, which, in my experience, costs $80+ from Dell.
Here is the manual for disassembly so you know what you'd have to do. -
Hi weirdo81622,
Thanks for the quick answer and the great writeup; that's exactly what I was looking for.
Searched Ebay and see that a Brand New Lid goes for only $37 shipped; seems like it might be worth it.
Might need some special tools so as to not hurt the bezels, etc.
Thanks again; Happy Easter,

it would be pretty difficult..not becuase of the disassembling and assembling part but getting frame off around the lcd was pretty difficult in my experience since there was really strong double sided tape. Also you would have to transfer all the wiring (wifi,bt,cam, etc) to the new one.

You could try the search. there was a thread made here by a user who had replaced his samsung lcd by an lg one.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
It's a little tedious, but not difficult to replace the lid: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsm1530/en/SM/display.htm#wp1109848
Once you pull out the actual LCD, it's just a matter of reassembling the display with the new lid. You might have to pull some additional parts off the old one, but it should nonetheless be pretty straightforward. -

i did that (for my m1330)....
it's not too difficult, make sure you have enough table space and tools(just screw drivers.... and plenty of torque needed to loosen some of the screws, especially the ones for the lcd display)
took me < 3 hours because i was also taking some time inspecting the whole circuitry....
on another note, a dell tech came to replace my dvd drive and he took < 30 minutes to replace the dvd drive(it requires removing almost all parts from the machine; display assembly, keyboard, back covers, wristpad, media keys)... -
An easier solution might be to put a skin on.
How about a brown, dark grey, or black leather skin?

Hi mystery905,
Thanks for the Skin suggestion; looks like there are lots of choices and only $25-$35.
Had a skin on my E1505; liked it a lot and it kept my cover mint.
Thanks again, Paul -
I did it a few weeks ago. I bought a fully loaded refurb last year that was pink. the pink was a realy nice color, but not me. So I bought a black and changed it out.
It isn't too difficult, but it does take patience and being careful. It took me about 40 minutes.
ebay or there's a company that sells dell parts for pretty cheap. I paid $30. all you need is the cover. -
Thanks SS21CA,
That's exactly what I wanted to hear....have read the writeup and understand there are lots of step that require Patience, organization and great care.
Is there anything else that needs to be changed to make a complete color change?
Did you need any special tools or those plastic bezel tools they sell?
Thanks again,
Paul -

nope... just normal (small) screwdrivers and patience to guide the front bezel back...

Be careful with the adhesive around the screen when you take the bezel off. make sure you've cleaned the monitor and the case and try not to get dust on the adhesive. This way, when you re-install the bezel around the monitor it will stick well.
Good luck...
I noticed he antennas on my new bezel looked a bit different, if anyone has any insight into the differences of the antennas I'd be interested to know. One was a simple metal, the second was more of a pcb... same amount of wires, just looked different.
