Looks like either the HDD controller or the drive went out. I would call Dell support. This is not something you are going to be able to fix yourself.

One thing you can try is to re-seat the dive, just make sure the system is completely off(no battery and no AC adapter)

maybe bad news. can you handle to try reseat the drive? The HDD is on left side hold by two screws. try to reinsert it. Also try to put your ear on HDD side to hear any strange sound...

As per the error recommendations, try reseating the drive. If that fails and the diagnostics cannot detect the drive, you should contact Dell. The drive has probably failed. Can you hear any hard disk activity from the computer?

it works normal now. HDDtune did not found any errors.
... Is it possible for a moment to stop workin? ... because exactly the same happened. And after restart it went OK! I lost a lot of unsaved info!

Can u suggest me some sort of test instead of reseating (cuz it works now , like i said "like nothing happened" ... very strange)

i have the exact same freakin problem, it happens about once a week. I have to reseat the drive and then it works for another week. but if i have unsaved info, im screwed. Don't expect dell to be too supportive either, ive called 3 times, and finally they said call back if it happens again and well send you a new hard drive. I have had so many problems with this. It's not software related either, as i reinstalled windows to no avail. This problem alone is enough for me to reconsider ever buying a dell again.

If you are still under 21 days of purchase... get a replacement. Immediately. It never happens to me nor most people.

Its stupid how people hate a company just because they messed up in manufacturing or quality assurance for a single shipment. Its also clumsy how people with such a major problem continue to use their laptops even though they KNOW it is a bothersome problem and instead of taking the time to get a replacement, they decide to "deal with it" and complain about it without taking any real action early on.

Make no mistake, I've had only one bad experience with Dell though the rest have been great. Out of the three laptops I've ordered, two were perfect on arrival, though the latest one, the M1530, my first shipment had major problems including:

-Ram Cover not Screwed on Properly Exposing Ram
    -Abraision on battery cover
-Rocks back and forth due to the base not being level when placed on a flat table
-Computer gave me an error about reseating ram the first time I started up
    -Extra noisy slot drive
-Keyboard having a huge bump in the center
    -Hinges were not even

The box was alright when I first got it, but the first thing I did right away was call for a replacement. Yes I was not happy, but once the replacement came, it really had NO problems whatsoever and everything was flawless.

Moral is theres always a chance of a mistake, and out of the many perfect units shipped, you never know if yours is that one mistake. The important thing is to do thorough testing and if theres a problem, get a replacement. Its that simple.

Back up your data, call Dell, tell them that your HDD failed, tell them that you got a screen that says that the HDD is not detected, you reseated it and still doesnt work, and you ran diagnostics and you got this error code 0141 on the HDD, that would be enough to get a new HDD. Even if your HDD is working fine i would suggest you to call them, and dont tell them that its working now :p

... the lappy is 2 months old so getting the replacement will be harder than it sounds.

The problem now is that i can't proove this. It happened to me for 1st time , and i'm not sure when this will repeat. So i suck!

That stinks. We'll if convincing them doesn't work and you want to literally mess up your hard drive badly... do the following:

    1. Install Ubuntu onto a laptop with an old BIOS. => Get “Grub Error 18” upon booting.
    2. Boot the Windows Recovery Console and run “fixmbr” and “fixboot”. =>Get “data read error” on boot.

It is a very good way to destroy your hard drive. Though if you want to repair it... all you have to do is:

    1. Run Partition Table Doctor and let it fix the MBR. => Get “NTLDR is missing” message.
    2. Run Paragon Partition Manager in DOS mode, select the Repair option, then assign it a drive letter. => Boot into Windows

Though what are the chances of Dell coming across this thread and knowing that you followed these steps right? :)

Well that sounds to radical i think, and in the same time ... we are no talkin about relationship with dell at ALL.

In the country where i'm livin there are few DELL distributors , they recieve 50 XPSs and try to sell them in the town. Their policy is much much different from dell's one.For Example: According to them , and the warranty which i signed , if i try to unscrew the HDD drive i'm practicaly loosin my rights. (WTF? :)

So if i decide to send it for repair ... the subject is as follow: The lappy stays 1or2 weeks in the office , getting dusty and dusty . One shiny day some of their "specialists" will take it for some tests. He will find out that he cant do anything , and the next step is to send it to another repair center. This is far far awaay from my home ( 500 km ) . Then another specialist will see it , annnd he will say" Hmm maybe something is wrong, we have to send it back to Dell, or maybe there is nothing wrong and we will send it back to customer" ... U see in both cases i'm f....d , so i have to return with some "visible" reason cuz i dont wanna stay without my lappy for ... month? ot 2?

Yeah, USA has the best policies for its consumers. Unfortunately the same can't be said for that of other countries, though it's understandable since exporting, tariffs, etc. are pretty high in foreign countries, so they are unable to have as many services or convenience.
