I’m reinstalling Win XP (32-bit) SP3 on my XPS M1530. I did the first trick in BIOS with the AHCI to ATA switching.. so the Win is installed now ok.
Still trying to gather all the necessary drivers, but the most frustrating thing is:
My Video card (as Display Adapter) doesn’t show up in Device Manager! I guess it still is shown as an “Other Devices” with the yellow question mark.
Now i tried to install the VIA service pack (for the viaagp1.sys file) That didn’t help.
And I cannot install the Nvidia driver as well..it just won’t let me.
Ohh, and I wasn’t able to install the AHCI driver right after WIN was reinstalled.. Also just wouldn’t let me.. is said somthin like this: "drivers cannot meet the min system requirements" ..and also some other drivers would refuse to get installed spitting out the same error message..
Any ideas here?
I would really appreciate any help!
P.S. I didn't manage to find out how to instal the AHCI driver in Device Manager by the "have disk" method.. Which channel/controller do I choose in the IDE ATA/ATAPI section?
big thanx!
Bob.

For the video card, you should try NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com
How much RAM do you actually have? 32-bit operating systems are only capable of addressing ~3.2GB. -
Hey, sorry.. about the DDR RAM ... I have a 1024x2 after all.. which is 2GB!
But I don't see how the Nvidia drivers at that link would help... The thing is.. Win won't let me install any video driver at all..
I managed to install the driver for wireless networking.. 've got the net!
Other driver installation's (including video, chipset, AHCI.. maybe others.. didn't bother to check all of them.. since the "Display Adapter" missing issue pisses me off the most..) were not allowed to be executed!
I tried to reinstall Windows again.. the same thing..
Before I ever started to reinstall the Win, laptop didn't have any of these issues.. Allthough, one of the reasons why I decided do so, was.. Windows was performing CHDSK all the time when I rebooted it.. and it froze at some point.. said that some files were currupt or somethin.. anyways, thought a clean reinstall would cure the thing..
whew...
any advice???
