Got my 1530 today. The Samsung display must be one of the worst LCD displays ever made.
It's got the grain that everyone talks about. Mine actually isn't that bad compared to some of the photos I've seen, but maybe the photos make it look worse than it actually is.
The viewing angles are very bad. Even when I'm looking directly at the monitor the corners are a little washed out. Moving my head slightly in any direction results in washed out areas.
There is not much light leakage on mine. It is brighter on the bottom, but looks about normal to me. I've seen worse.
I feel like I'm looking through a haze of fine dust. It's like the monitor is covered with some kind of tint. It's not possible to get anything white on this monitor. Everything looks a little grey. Reading text on a white background really strains my eyes.
The color is actually pretty nice if it were not slightly grey.
It's very depressing because the rest of the machine is really good! The build quality and materials are nice and it's very speedy even with the bloatware running. I can't believe Dell messed it all up by putting this monitor on this computer. I can see why people put up with trying to get the screen replaced instead of just returning the machine. I'm trying to decide whether to return it or try to get the screen swap. I'm leaning toward returning it... but aside from the screen this machine is just so awesome![]()
I also got a 2 prong plug instead of the 3 prong even though the sales person I talked to said they only send out 3 prongs now. In one outlet I can feel a slight vibration when I move my finger down the palm rest without grounding myself. In another outlet it's fine. Strange!

I feel very sorry for your problematic monitor.. I have the 1280x800 on my 1530 and its fantastic! You should return the laptop, they shouldnt sell these laptops with such poor quality monitors. The fact that the screen is a Samsung is interesting, I have 22" 226BW and its great, along with our 42" inch tv.

I've got a Dell Inspiron 6000 with the exact same size and resolution as the 1530. The 6000 is 3 years old and the monitor looks much better than the 1530 in every way (brighter, no light leakage, very good viewing angles). Both are Samsungs. I think the 1530 Samsungs are just defective or something.

post #34 has a really good picture of what the grain looks like.
Mine doesn't look as bad as that but it still makes the screen look very bad. -
I ordered a Vostro 1400 back in November and have had two replacements regarding the display and audio issues that so many are having. The initial one was a Samsung and I was immediately disapointed with the display. It looked grainy, had very poor viewing angles, and just didn't appear to be as good as other displays of other laptops I have seen. The first replacement also had a Samsung, but it had other issues both software and physical so I immediately sent that one back. The second replacement had a CMO display and I compared it side by side to the first one with the Samsung that I still had before I sent it back. There was a noticeable difference especially on a white background. The Samsung display had a slight gray haze on white backgrounds like webdtc described. Consistant problem with the Samsung displays? The CMO did not have that effect and white backgrounds looked truely white like they should. The CMO display seemed way more comfortable to look at and I think it was for this reason . All the displays were truelife 1440 x 900. I'd like to compare the CMO to an LG and see the difference. BTW, still haven't resolved the audio issue.
