    Hi guys,

not visited the forums in a while, tried searching but couldn't find anything. My PA-10 ac adapter died a few months ago just out of warranty, it was powering at the mains for a while but it is totally dead now. I have finally decided I need a new charger however not sure what to get.

Do I need to go for the PA-10 again or can I get the newer slim PA-3E one instead?

Its just I have found the PA-3E on amazon.co.uk for a lot less than I can get the PA-10 either from Dell themselves or on eBay.

Thanks in advance guys any help appreciated.

Hey, I've been looking at this today also, as my power pack is about to fall apart.

I've found a few ebay listings and other site saying that it is compatible with the m1530 so I'm just wondering where to order this from.

Anyone know where to find this is AUS :D, don't have paypal and there a few listings on ebay which i'm not sure if they are new or 'like new' ~_~

I'll post here again after I find one.

The PA-10 and PA-3E should be completely interchangeable. I've actually been using an older PA-10 with my E6400 for almost a year now. Said laptop shipped with the PA-3E.

Thanks, just what I wanted to hear. I like the look of the slimmer PA-3E.

I just had my motherboard, fan/heat sync unit replaced under warranty (XPS M1530) Monday and they sent a PA-3E AC adapter to replace the original one which was different....FYI

    Thanks, have ordered the PA-3E.

I am sure thats the issue, as my existing charger stopped charging the battery and I kept getting the warning at bootup, and now the charger no longer works at all. The green light doesn't even come on in the adaptor anymore.

Hi guys, got my new AC adaptor this morning and the laptop still won't power up.

When connecting the adaptor to the mains I get the light on it, however once I connect to the laptop the light on the adaptor goes off. Does this mean there is something wrong with the laptop itself, possibly the motherboard?

Will I be best calling my nearest PC repair place, I don't really want to have to pay for Dell to repair it.

It does sound like there is a hardware problem.

Do you happen to have the 8400m or 8600m GPU?
Because that is a known faulty GPU.
    That may be the cause.

    I have the Gefore 8600M GT - 256MB

Was fine till a couple of months ago, I even had the motherboard replace under warranty in March. I kept getting the warning about the Adaptor not being identified and it was still working for a while, then suddenly nothing at all. Warranty ran out in May and the power issues started not long after that.

Not sure why the AC adaptor would loose the power light when connecting to the laptop though? could it be the power connecter within the laptop rather than the GPU?

It's a problem with the motherboard. If the adapter light goes out like that, it means there's a short somewhere on the motherboard caused by a bad component or whatever. M1530 boards are still fairly expensive; I don't know if it would be cheaper to have Dell or a third party replace it for you.

Damn, I thought that might be the case. Dell only just replaced the motherboard a couple of months before the warranty ran out which is the most annoying thing.

Well after seeking some advice, I am thinking of calling Dell and trying to get them to repair it, simply because they replaced the main board not long before the warranty ran out so technically they are under a breach of Uk trading laws as the product wasn't repaired properly and not fit for purpose. So they should if I can get them to respond fix my laptop for free.
