    Hello,

My M1530 has not had any issues with Nvidia chipset etc. I do not play any games on this machine either. I have XP on this laptop.

    (1) My battery is going bad. I was wondering if I should go with Dell genuine battery from Dell or an aftermarket Dell battery (sold as genuine Dell on ebay but who knows whether they are knock-offs)?

    (2) Also, I intend to install Win 7 on this machine soon and was getting a good deal on 8GB RAM. Should I install this 8GB RAM just to check if it is working or not? I assume that bios should correctly recognize RAM as 8GB but XP would recognize only ~3.5GB. Is that correct?

    Thanks for your help.

    (1) Make sure if you buy a battery off eBay it has the official Dell logo on it. I bought one a year ago, and it has been fine.

    (2) Correct.

If you install the 64-bit version of Win7 you will be able to use all 8GB.

Please let us know if you find a good replacement battery, I need one too.

There is no guarantee that the Dell logo might not be fake or battery might not be rebuilt. I could understand aftermarket batteries sold at a low price but do not understand how genuine Dell batteries are sold at lower price unless Dell had an inventory clearance.

Do you need a replacement battery or genuine Dell? I was more looking into genuine Dell battery and was hoping to see if I could use a Dell 15% or 20% coupon. Do not know if coupon works for batteries.

I've been hunting for this myself, wouldn't mind a 9-cell but after scouring ebay for weeks, it's impossible to find a deal. All of the 'genuine' or 'oem' battery's from Dell are from china, most likely rips.

I think if my laptop will need a new battery, I will just buy from dell.

Also, if you have Win XP 64-bit, it will recognize 8gig's.
I purchased back a few months ago memory from Crucial, it was a bit expensive but they guarantee for it to work. I bought memory from corsair, DDR2 800mhz and memtest86 was giving me faults with the 800mhz memory. The m1530 chipset requires 667mhz, so if you buy 8gig memory, buy DDR2 667mhz 8gig.

The 8 gig 800mhz will still work, as it will downclock to the chipset but it might give you memtest errors. Take this from me, I've wasted too much time and money on buying compatible yet not correct memory for the m1530.
