I have an M1530 running Vista 32 with a T5550 CPU (1.83GHz 667MHz 2MB), 4GB 667MHz DDR2 @ 5-5-5-15, and an 8400M GS (I know - should have bought the 8600M GT).
Anyway, I'm wondering if there's a list anywhere of the CPUs that will work in the M1530. I upgraded my RAM a few weeks after getting mine in early 2008 and I'm now considering a CPU upgrade. A quick Google and I know that the X9000 is the fastest CPU around, but the ones on FleaBay are £300+ ($500+). No chance. I would rather buy a new laptop.
So what are the parameters for this chipset? I gave up laptop repairs after the Thinkpad T40 era so I'm a little out of touch.

The M1530 uses a PM965 chipset has support for the 1st generation 45nm processors, 2.1GHz T8100, 2.4GHz T8300, 2.5GHz T9300, 2.6GHz T9500 and the 2.8GHz X9000.
The T9300 is the best bang per buck performance in the line, coupled with a 6mb L2 cache. You can find alot on eBay for a fair and decent price.
The other P series and T series processors with 1066Mhz FSB won't boot because of chipset and BIOS limitation. -
I have the T9300. When I was configuring my system, it seemed the best value as mentioned above. It's served me well but with the overheating issues it gets pretty hot. Not the CPUs problem though.
