My Dell XPS M1530 just shut down on me. When I plug the charger into the laptop, the green light on the charger turns off, just like it wasn't plugged into the wall outlet. I tried a second charger, and the light on that one just blinks in rapid succession. I've tried booting it up without the battery and with a replacement battery with the same results.

So now my laptop can't start up and I'm not sure what's going on.

I bought the laptop in December of 2007, so no warranty to fall back on.

    Any ideas?

I think something in your laptop is shorted and the chargers are shutting down to protect themselves from burning out.

If that's the case, is the laptop pretty much done for then? Are there common things that short out that I should check for?

Or is it out of the question to repair this myself, and I would it need to ship it in to dell for repairs?

That's pretty much it. Your motherboard is shot and you'll need to replace it. It's definitely something you can do yourself, but a new motherboard for these things may run up some $100 to $200. Dell will probably repair it for you at twice that cost, though.

Thanks for the responses. I have a feeling it's not worth it to send it in to Dell. I'll probably try tinkering with it on my own as a learning experience. I've never changed out a laptop motherboard, so this should be interesting. Thanks again!
