I'm getting ready to buy a Dell XPS M1530 and I had a few questions about the configuration options. I've been reading through the posts here for the last few weeks and I still have a few unanswered questions.

3GB or 4GB of RAM? I'm planning on running in Vista 32 mode.

The Intel wireless N card. Does it support A/B/G?

What does built in wireless USB capability mean? Do they mean ports? Which of these options is best?

Should I get the Dell BT travel mouse or can I pick up a different BT mouse later and use it easily? Would wireless USB be a better option for a mouse?

Anyone tried the Sennheiser RS100 Premium Supraural Wireless Headset? Is it worth $40? How does it work?

What do people think of the Auto/air A/C adapter?

    Thanks for the help!

You will ultimately want 4GB of RAM, but due to the pricing of Dells RAM being more expensive than what it actually is, search for PC 5300 Notebook RAM on Newegg and buy that.

The Wireless N card is backwards compatible meaning it does support A/B/G

Build in wireless USB capability is not really a big deal, just get Internal Bluetooth. It includes wireless USB capability of its own and its only 20 bucks. That is the only option you want.

It doesnt matter if you get a Dell BT mouse, but I'm sure there are cheaper BT mice out there you can buy later. If you have internal Bluetooth you will have wireless USB capability so its redundant if you choose both.

The headsets really don't matter unless you are a really killer audiophile. I wouldnt get it and I am sure you could find better wireless headsets out there.

The Auto AC adapter I wouldn't care about since you most likely will be sitting in your home or office building and if you were to use your laptop in the car, you wouldnt use it for over 2 and a half hours anyways. Planes also have AC outlets of their own, so you dont need any special outlets. It depends on seating in Economy Class, though they are available in business class and up for most planes such as Boeing.

    Hope that helps!

    1. 3GB of RAM is all you'll need. Vista 32 can only see about 3.5GB.
    2.Yes, A/B/G/N.
    3. I'm assuming they just mean ports, but the Usb recievers can send wireless signals.
    4. I have the DELL BT mouse, and it works great. Comfortable, compact, great tracking, and great battery life.

Yeah, and whats more, the dell mouse costs next to nothing. Easy to replace if you don't like it! (£9 in the UK- i'm not fussed!)
I'm getting an M1530 with 3gb ram, and if I ever get my hands on 64 bit vista, I will upgrade it myself. But 64-bit vista comes with its own host of problems- drivers etc.- so I'm not bothered at the moment.
Seinnheiser are an awesome company but look around in case you can get them cheaper... then again, $40 isn't bad. Thats.. £20. I'd pay that if they were good enough- look for reviews on them.
I hadn't thought about an Auto AC adapter... I guess it might be nice if you're a passenger in a car and you want to watch a DVD or something. But it has limited uses.

You're right. Thank you too Forte. Sorry about that. It was late when I replied, and I totally missed your post. It was informative as well!

Thank you too Coldjonny! I see what you mean about the mouse.

I suggest if you have not bought it yet to go with the least amount of ram and then upgrade your ram through newegg or another site.It will come out cheaper that way
