I've had my Dell XPS M1530 Notebook for just over a year now and I've been having a problem with the lid and getting the notebook to sleep when closed almost since day one!

Essentially, closing the lid does not put the computer to sleep! The screen stays on and the computer stays on. I've checked in the power options and they are all correctly configured to sleep, but I've also tried configuring them to hibernate but this still does not work. I've tried almost all of the software options and settings that I can think of and also opening up the computer to see if there were any loose connections, but everything seems fine!

One more thing to add - it's not like my computer doesn't get to
know at all that the lid is closed. When I open the lid, everything is ON but
the mouse arrow behaves 'drunk' for a while before becoming normal.

I've read in other forums about the exact same problem from other users so I don't think it's specific to my XPS M1530 only.

    Can someone help?

    click power options
    Change plan settings
    change advanced power settings
    Power buttons and lid
lid close action ( make sure it says sleep )
    Then goto multimedia settings
When sharing media (and change it from away mode to allow to sleep)

I had this problem with my 1330 and 1640 its a vista bug

when the lid is closed.. does the screen turn off or not? if it does not.. then you might have either a magnet missing that activates a switch to turn off the lid, or the motherboard might need a replacement. had that issue and dell replaced my motherboard for that...

not necessarily needs a mobo replacement

i used to have the same problem too,

since my magnet near the webcam is still around

called dell and had a palm rest replacement

there's a sensor at the palmrest just below the touchpad and for my case, it didnt seems to work during that time.
