Just wanted to know if I need to install all the driver updates found on this link:
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...ystemID=XPS_M1530&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Just bought my XPS M1530 about 3 weeks ago and haven't installed Windows Service Pack 1 yet.
Should I install "all" those drivers, or were they already included in my notebook?
Is there a way to find out whether my Dell drivers were already updated upon purchase?
Thanks

If you'd got your system 3 weeks ago, then most probably you have the latest drivers... so you need not worry as long as everything is working fine.
But remember that most of the drivers there in Dell downloads section are not the latest.. but again, as long as you don't have any issues, you need not worry. But if you want to get in the latest drivers, you can do it manually by getting the latest from the respective device manufacturer pages.. Like the Intel drivers for example.. But it doesn't mean these Dell drivers don't work well.
And I would highly recommend you install Service Pack 1, asap.
As for checking the drivers, just look in your device manager for the version and see the corresponding entry in the dell drivers n downloads section.... but as I said, you should be having the latest, since Dell did not get in any new drivers of late.. (the most recent and important one was the 175.97 for the nVidia card, if I remember well)...
So you should be good to go as such.. Dont worry. Cheers.
PS., if you want the latest drivers to be in ur system like I said before, there is another way rather than doing everything one by one manually - which is to use "drivermax"... its nice and a good utility.. I have tested it on XP and Vista, and it works very well. -
Thanks for the advice. I ended up not needing to install any of the Dell drivers found on their official site. I just installed Windows SP1 and so far there are no issues with any drivers.
I'll probably use that drivermax software you mentioned in the future.
However, just one question. For the latest driver update for the NVIDIA graphics card...is that a necessary driver update? What does it do to your graphics card? Is that something I should update now? I'm not aware of making any updates to my NVIDIA card yet... -
Well as long as your graphics card is working fine, I would suggest sticking with it and see how it goes... 175.97 is not *all that old*... and these days they keep releasing drivers almost every week or two...
Further, if you are gaming, then try playing games or just do some basic benchmarks (like 30mark06) to confirm everything is fine.. check the frame rates as such, the temperatures reached (during idle and while maxing out)... check you are happy with graphics in general... if all is fine, just stick with it..
Else there are lots of drivers you could update to, depending on any specific needs or just to have the latest / newer drivers.. I personally prefer sticking with OEM drivers, though... if it ain't broke, why go about fixing it?
But remember, when you are updating drivers, most of the newer ones for the graphics card are from laptopvideo2go with the modded inf files.. and these modded inf files render the WHQL signing useless, meaning you won't be able to watch blu-ray discs well (if you have a blu-ray drive)... otherwise, there are many newer drivers versions for the 8600M GT that you could update to, if you wanted... I am still with the 175.97 and I am happy with it... -
Aright...
Yeah, so far there are no issues with my graphics card as games like Battlefield 2 and Fear run smoothly. If I do face any issues in the future though, I'll follow your advice. Thanks again...
