    Well, i got xps 1530 8600mgt

when i idle i get 59-69, when i running World of Warcraft at highest settings...

my GPU up to 79-81, is that really normal?? is that too hot? danger ?

I'm heavy gamer, most of the time playing wow, spend hours to play with that 79-81, is it danger? or it gonna make my GPU life dead faster?

I really want to know that because almost 24 hours my laptop is running game.. with high temp

i using 9 cell-battery and a zalman cooler pad, it really helps to cool my laptop, except the GPU ( becoz it is inside)

thank you, this question is really important to me..

Those temps are a bit high, but seeing how the laptop has limited airflow (compared to a desktop) I would not worry about it. As long as your running in high performance mode and that fan is running and your vent in the back is not being blocked, you should be fine.

Large variation in idle temps it seems...59 seems normal..69 a bit high for idle I think. But your load temps are fine. The 8600 gpu can withstand temps of 90-95. And if it overheats it'll just shutoff. Also since your laptop is constantly on and on load often, might be a good idea to open it up every few months or so and clean the vents and fan off dust.

When I turned off vertical sync in WoW, I got about 130 fps. But my GPU temp hit 76 degrees. With vertical sync on, the fps is 60 and the temp is about 68 max.

vsync caps the fps at either 30 (if fps is above 30) or 60 (if fps is above 60). It usually prevents tearing.

Yeah, that's why I run with vsynch on, even on my (desktop) PCs. Tearing's the main reason but a cooler running GPU is definately a bonus :D

    thanks everyone,

about my idle temp 59-69, i dont know why,

normally it just 57-59, but sometimes it suddenly increasing to 69-70 for a min something, then drop back to 57-59 again?

is something running behind the vista load the gpu and getting hotter?

btw, should i open the laptop to clean?(i still on warranty, if open it, will the warranty void?) if so, how to open it? is it hard? :p i never open laptop before, only know to open up desktop to clean

Let me just say that I would not be happy with those temps. I own a Dell e1705 (with 7900GS) that I now need to replace because the video card is busted. I attribute this mainly to the fact that (before using i8kfangui) my GPU temp would routinely hit 85 and sometimes above. A friend of mine with an XPS (don't know specifically which model) had the same exact problem. We both got graphical glitches when playing FPS type games, specifically in TF2. Fortunately, his was covered by an extended warranty and the tech stated it was his video card, replaced it, and now his system runs fine.

I am currently looking for something besides a Dell because I'm afraid that all Dell notebooks suffer from the same heat problems, judging from years of experience. I was inclined to get the XPS M1530, but am looking away for precisely the temps stated in this thread.

I'll go one step further and say that my brother owns a Sager/Clevo with a slightly older video card (6800 ultra or something) and his runs fine to this day. Sure he paid a premium for his (about $400) but now he isnt in the market for another $1400+ laptop, I'd say money well spent. His laptop is also smaller, better looking, and gets a longer battery life.

 One day i might fry my video card?

yeah dell many laptops have exactly same problem, but xps seem better than other laptop alot,
I'm also playing FPS, TF2 at 1280x800 and max everything, highest AA and Anstpc 16x,

I hope my card is ok for that, it is laptop, i cant do anything to make it better unlike desktop..
I got my modified heatsink/fan on 8600GT installed on my desktop, and it only 45 temp and when full load. never get more than 58temp, the card performance really close to my 8600MGT but the temp totally different, laptop has limited airflow :(

:( i bought my xps 1530 because it's cheap when the Dell in malaysia has 3 days PC fair promotion,

    with the Specs
Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz -(free upgrade from 1.83Ghz)
    2GB RAM 667mhz
250GB SATA HDD -(free upgrade from 120GB SATA)
    1280x800 Truelife screen
    8600MGT GDDR3 -(free upgrade from 8400MGS)

Original price should be RM6000 above, and i bought it only RM4299 :p

I dont know the RM currency convert to your country currency is how much
but this is why i buy my m1530 without think about it when i saw this great deal promotion :D

Ya I know how to do it. I just don't understand why no one uses the national heat measurement and instead chooses to only use Celcius.

In general, when talking about computers and component temps, it has always resorted to C.. I really do not understand why either, thats just how it has always been.

because it's international not US only.
Celsius is the standard measure for heat worldwide.
Dont you study Physic in high school or college???? They use S.I (kg, meter, celsius) unit instead of American unit

I will soon order my for 1530. Is there much heat difference for the T5450 (1.66Ghz) and T7250 (2 Ghz) processors.

Ya, if your under 85, I wouldn't worry. Those auto shut off when they are in danger of frying.

Also, 81 max is when I have the 6cell battery in...if I have the 9cell, the air flow is better and I am @ about 75 max. So consider your airflow as well.

If anyone is still curious about converting Celsius to Fahrenheit you take your Celsius temp. multiply it by 1.8 and then add 32, viola you now have your Celsius temp converted into Fahrenheit.

    Those are really intersting temperatures...

In reference to the OP, I am using a 6-cell battery.

    Game Played:
    World in Conflict
    1200x800
    Settings: Medium
    Drivers: 174.12
    Power Setting: High Performance

This is a picture of the first hour of playing WiC without a notebook cooler...

    Gaming Temperatures: 76-80 Celcius / 168.8-760 F
    Temperature of Room: 70F
Notes: Played on a flat hard wood surface, 2 usb ports on the left side are taken for a keyboard and mouse, no obstructions to airflow. This is after an hour of playing WiC without a notebook cooler. Playing again a day later at my school library I peaked at around 81 degrees. Normal temperatures without a notebook cooler you will se 76-82 degrees Celcius. THIS IS NORMAL.

*Edit* 3/3/08 Just played WiC for a little over 3 hours in my school's library on a nice flat wood surface, Riviatuner read 79-82 degrees C without a notebook cooler

This is running with a notebook cooler (the Zalman NC-1000)

    Gaming Temperatures: 70-72 Celcius / 158-161.6 F
    Temperature of Room: 70-71F
Notes: Same surface, but notebook is on top of the NC-1000. All USB ports are taken this time. Temperatures stuck around for me 69-72 after an hour of playing WiC. I seen temperatures go up as far as 74 degrees, but this is after 6 hours of playing various games straight....

My drivers are the 174.12 NO OC. I hope this helps people!

Getting worried now about mine. 9 month old and the temps are just gradually increasing. Played Dawn of War 2 Beta last night, Dox 181.20 Drivers, Back of laptop raised to increase airflow, no o/c :-

    THM 92degreesC
    Cores 86degreesC
    GPU 88degreesC

This does not look considering it ran at least 10degrees cooler across the board when I first got it.

I get a max temp of 82 while gaming, then the temp immediately drops to 58-68 fluctations.... seems to be normal

Have you cleaned your vents and fan since getting it 9 months ago? Should help if you haven't. ACPI seems to be a bit high. Might be due to the thermal pad starting to deteriorate. CPU temps are above 20C of what they should max out at. Should really be below 60C under load.

Recently replaced the thermal paste on mine. GPU on load so far has only gone up to 72C compared to 86C before. Idles around 58-64C on average. CPU still idling around 40-45C with 55C under load. All my temps are with my cooler off.

    it is not Studio..
But my temperatures are 48 to 57-58 C idle
and In games - 85 C max with little overclock

    Ati Radeon HD 3450

I had HP before...It is typically issue for DELL to have high GPU temperature
I guess it is because their BIOS...
My HP 6730s was bad but his GPU was one idea/way cooler than my Studio 1535

HP 6730s is with Ati Radeon HD 3420

I love Dell and my Studio especially but...
