    Hi All,

now in the main the machine works great.

However once a week it dies and says hard drive not found, and then a reset returns everything to normal.

I think its a heating issue as i do leave it on for long periods and the ventilation fans aren't exactly huge.

Any clues? what shall I do?

    Thanks

Any notebook that expells heat on the sides or bottom needs to be lifted off the table an inch or so.
I built a simple four post, rectangular wooden device that allows the laptop to sit securely off the ground and then I have two hi fi fans that are whisper quiet that blow air under the laptop.
This didn't cost much at all and makes a BIG difference.

Keep that bad boy cool

I've had it less than 3 weeks.

if it is a heat issue only then i'll have to look at something other than wood as i work of my lap in the main.

if you experts think its dying then whats the procedure to get a quick replacement?

It isn't a heat issue. Do you have any flash drives/external HDD plugged in while booting? If not it's definitely a sign of a dying HDD. All you need to do is call Dell and tell them that the HDD is dying.

Yeah, run some diagnostic software. I am sure Dell has something. Or lookup the make of your HD and they usally have something.
