    XPS M1530 Hard drive dead in 6 months

    So my hard drive just stopped working on my xps m1530. 6 months later, just stopped working, i get a new one today. i lost everything on my computer so im extremely pissed. just thought i would let buyers know that. i think its just a faulty drive but still.

    Actually...be mad at the company that made the drive. Not Dell.

    Oh, and consider getting a back up hard drive...

    Call Dell for a replacement. Chances are they will send you a bigger/faster hard drive than the one you have. The hard drive in my sister's vostro 1500 died after a few days and they exchanged her 120gb 5400rpm drive for an 160gb 7200rpm drive for free.

    Have any of you used Dell Back-up Plan? I used Carbonite on my other computer. And have registered to use the Dell plan for now.

    My new hard drive came yesterday spent 3 hours with dell on the phone setting everything up but everything is working great now,
    Sweet deal...I had a 160 gb hard drive, they sent me a 200 gb hard drive, so im happy with that!

    I went through (3) 7200rpm drives in my old D800 in 4 years. The first one died pretty early - probably somewhere around 6 months. It was always my feeling that they just ran too hot, and it killed them. A lot of times I would sit with the laptop on my lap and work. I think this may have been a contributing factor as well - since ventilation becomes an issue with some laptops when they are not on a hard flat surface. I think this is one of the reasons that SSD will ultimately be the preferred storage for a laptop.
