    Hi,

I've had my M1530 for about a week now, so far very impressed. I formatted it as soon as I got it to get rid of bloatware and mediadirect. I put on a few games and have been playing them quite comfortably.

However, I have a couple of questions for people who have got the M1530.

    1. How hot does your laptop run when it is idle, gaming and just after gaming? I have been playing STALKER and Company of Heroes a fair amount and the fans kick in pretty much as soon as I start playing. Just wondering if this is normal because my old D810 didn't do it quite as early when gaming. Also when I leave a game I usually turn on my temperature program and cpu is about 60C, HDD 45C and my GPU is 65C. However it seems to take the GPU a while to cool down, sometimes it seems to never cool down and the fans will kick in when it hits 70C.
(p.s. I have the 9cell battery so it is slightly raised, I play with it on my lap, however I have an upturned plastic tray under it mainly to save my legs from getting hot after a few hours.)

    2. With certain DVDs (so far only the Vista install that came with the laptop and Sword of the Stars CE) when I put the disk in it will make ALOT of noise when spinning up, is this a common issue? Should I get the DVD drive changed? The DVDs work fine, however I don't want a disk to shatter of something like that. I'm just a little concerned!

Well thank you for your time,

    Anyone have any details?

I just played STALKER for about 2 hours and these are my temperatures:

    ACHI: 38C Min 75C Max
    CPU-C1: 36C Min 70C Max
    CPU-C2: 35C Min 70C Max
    GPU: 52C Min 75C Max
    HDD: 22C Min 44C Max

Played Company of Heroes for a few hours after STALKER, values were about the same, maybe a degree or two lower on the max values.

How does this compare to other people's values?

    Hi,
new 1530, purchased few days ago...
my values when it is idle or basicly just browsing net (right now); ambient temp 25°C :

    CPUID Hardware Monitor 1.1.0.0

max temp measured in this sesion (2 hrs idle/browsing) no extra processes running background

ACPI hardware monitor Temperature sensor 0 66°C

    Temperature sensor 0 67°C (core #0)
    Temperature sensor 1 66°C (core #1)
Temperature sensor 0 72°C (GPU Core)
    Temperature sensor 0 42°C (HDD)

I do not like my readings. It is too much for, almost, "doing nothing"
    Same readings in Everest Ultimate
    Config:

    Black XPS 1530 - T8300 2.4GHz / 4GB RAM / 200GB 7.2k RPM HDD / 8600GT 256MB / 1440x900 LCD / 8X DVD-RW/ Vista Business

Seems normal then, however I do notice the fan kicks in very early, even when I'm just browsing the internet, when the GPU gets to 70C I think.

Anyway, anyone have any ideas about the DVD noise issue?

I know the loading/unloading is fairly loud, however it's the actual spinning of the disk I'm worried about. Most of the time it is fine, but with a couple of DVDs it is VERY noisy.

ok... either i have problems with my ears or my drive is unusually quite (calm before the storm?)... lol
I played NFS Carbon for half an hour and the max temperatures that went were:
    CPU - 70
    GPU - -79
I did a benchmark test on this software called PC Wizard 2008 and then my GPU went up to 81 degrees celsius.

I live in India and the weather here these days is usually in the range of 34-37C... just in case that might make a difference...

My temps our about the same. My CD drive can also get pretty loud. With one CD it even clicked the whole time. I let it go through because it was installing some important software I needed. It hasn't happened with any other CD yet though.

Well I will see how the drive goes. I don't often have disks in my drive, I usually get a no-cd patch just because I hate having to load/unload all the time, besides, most games install all the data onto the HDD these days, the CD is just there to check that you own the game, which I do for 95% for my games.

If it is just this one disk (game, not vista one) that has this issue then I might just .iso it and mount it, it's not like I'm short on HDD space on this machine!

The only time my cd drive is loud was when I was formatting a partition on my hdd, it made a crazy loud vibrating noise that really worried me. Once the drive was formatted, it went back to normal!
